Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Wu has distinguished himself as secretary general of the Taiwan Center Foundation of Greater Los Angeles since 2018. In this capacity, he plays a pivotal role in fostering understanding and collaboration between the United States and Taiwan, as well as advancing the interests of the Taiwanese American community in the Greater Los Angeles area. His responsibilities include interacting with representatives from various organizations, addressing questions about Taiwan and Taiwanese Americans on behalf of the foundation, managing staff, overseeing donor relations and organizing events that promote broader goals such as strengthening U.S. relations through civic efforts. Mr. Wu has also led press conferences, fundraising campaigns and significant community events, including Miss Taiwanese American pageants, galas and commemorative activities.
A defining moment in Mr. Wu's career occurred in 2017 when he contributed to the advancement of Taiwan Travel Act, a landmark piece of legislation that enabled high-level officials from the United States and Taiwan to meet and travel to one another. This achievement was particularly significant given the challenges posed by China's opposition to direct engagement between the two nations. The passage of this act allowed for meaningful discussions on critical issues and marked a major step forward in U.S.-Taiwan relations.
In addition to his work with the Taiwan Center Foundation, Mr. Wu is also the owner of an investment company. Through this venture, he has demonstrated his acumen in business management and investment strategy, further broadening his professional expertise.
Mr. Wu is recognized as an expert in Taiwan–U.S. civic diplomacy, a distinction that reflects his deep knowledge and steadfast commitment to advancing the mutual interests of both countries. Mr. Wu's expertise on these issues is frequently sought by scholars, politicians, media outlets, and relevant organizations across the globe. Mr. Wu is the recipient of multiple honors and commendations from Taiwanese government officials, U.S. Members of Congress, and various state and local elected officials in recognition of his dedicated service and advocacy.
Mr. Wu's academic background includes earning a bachelor's degree in economics with a minor in policy studies from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2003. The rigorous training he received at this institution provided him with a strong foundation in economic theory and policy analysis, skills that have been instrumental throughout his career. He attributes much of his success to being a good listener, a quality that has enabled him to build consensus, foster relationships and effectively address complex issues within his professional roles.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Wu has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to civic engagement and community leadership. He has served as president of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Formosan Association for Public Affairs(FAPA), head of World United Formosans for Independence(WUFI) Los Angeles chapter, chairman of the Taiwanese American Conference West Coast and chairman of the Taiwanese American Heritage Week Committee of Greater Los Angeles. Additionally, he is an executive committee member and spokesperson of the U.S. West Chapter of the Democratic Progressive Party. Mr. Wu currently serves as a Government Affairs Adviser to Taiwan's Premier and as an Adviser to the Overseas Community Affairs Council—a ministry responsible for diaspora affairs—both honorary titles conferred by cabinet-level organs of Taiwan's central government. He was also part of the Taiwan Independence Advocates for more than three decades.
Born in Taipei, Mr. Wu enjoys traveling and watching movies during his personal time. Looking ahead, he aims to continue his current endeavors and remains open to guidance as he pursues future opportunities.
Mr. Wu's career is marked by significant milestones in civic diplomacy, business leadership and civic involvement.
