PORT ARANSAS, TX, November 05, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mary Goldsmith has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Goldsmith has established a multifaceted career that bridges law, photography and community leadership. As the owner of the Law Office of Mary A. Goldsmith, she currently provides legal counsel to a select clientele in her longtime hometown of Port Aransas, Texas, drawing on decades of experience in both private practice and corporate law. She is also the owner of Mary Goldsmith Photography and Art in Nature which showcase her longstanding passion for wildlife, landscape and surf photography, and she continues a history of community leadership and service, most recently as an appointed member of the 2023 Comprehensive Plan Committee for the City of Port Aransas.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, as Mary Ann Goldsmith, she spent most of her childhood in Tyler, Texas. After graduating from the University of Texas in 1974 with Honors and Special Honors in History, Ms. Goldsmith worked for two years as a Teamster on the TransAlaska Pipeline in order to put herself through law school. As a student at the University of Texas School of Law she served as Articles Editor of the Texas Law Review and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in 1979. She began her practice of law as an Associate at the Los Angeles firm of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton and was admitted to the bar in California in 1979. In 1982 she returned to Texas, was admitted to the Texas bar and joined the Texas Energy group in Houston, serving over the next five years as Associate General Counsel, General Counsel and Vice President. In 1985 she moved to the island town of Port Aransas, Texas, where she continued as counsel to the Texas Energy group and established a solo legal practice, gave birth to her son, and became involved in community affairs. In 1990 she joined the nearby Corpus Christi office of San Antonio-based Thornton, Summers, Biechlin, Dunham & Brown and became a partner of the firm in 1997, where she worked as a trial lawyer until 2010. After time for travel, she became Of Counsel to her brother's Austin oil and gas firm, Goldsmith & Bogisch, assisting them with complex litigation and having the pleasure of winning a jury trial with her brother.
Ms. Goldsmith has been involved in civic leadership and advocacy in her hometown of Port Aransas from the beginning of her residency in 1985. She was appointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission in 1986 and served as Chairman from 1998-1991. She was then elected to three consecutive terms on the City Council from 1991 to 1997. She was most recently appointed by the City Council to the Comprehensive Plan Committee. She has also served on the boards of several non-profit organizations, and was elected to serve as Vice President and then President of the Texas Gulf Surfing Association from 2004 to 2024. As a City Councilwoman, she spearheaded a movement to legalize surfing at the local pier, a hard-fought effort that earned her recognition among surfers across Texas. She was awarded the coveted Spirit of Surfing award by the Texas Gulf Surfing Association together with her son, acclaimed surfer Morgan Faulkner.
Ms. Goldsmith's interest in photography was nurtured by an introspective look at the natural environment during the isolation of the pandemic beginning in 2020. Her photographic focus on the natural world led to a continuing series of daily "walkabouts" and annual "through the lens" collections of nature photography, which are widely viewed on social media and in regional art galleries. She is a member of the Texas Press Association, a staff photographer for the Port Aransas South Jetty newspaper and an artist member of the Port Aransas Art Center and the Rockport Center for the Arts. She is also a well-known surf photographer, a passion developed through years of traveling the world with her surfer son.
She credits her success to supportive parents who instilled in her a desire for achievement and an independent spirit.
Looking ahead, Ms. Goldsmith remains dedicated to community involvement as her island home faces new challenges, to continued exposure of the world around her through photography, to travel, to writing and to mentoring young people as they mentor her.
