NEW YORK, NY, November 10, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joan Ava Gillman, educator with The Browning School, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the October/November 2025 national issue of Fortune magazine.

Celebrating more than 40 years of experience in education, Joan Gillman has been recognized as a certified educator through National Geographic since 2019 and is well-regarded for her roles at The Browning School in New York. Having taught science for second, fifth and sixth grade from 2018 to 2019, she has taught second, fourth and sixth grade since 2019. Impressively, Ms. Gillman is also a licensed K-8 educator in New Jersey with additional endorsements in K-12 education for students with hearing impairments. Earlier in her career, Ms. Gillman was a fifth and sixth-grade science teacher at The Calhoun School for 10 years. She previously taught at public and private schools in New York and New Jersey.

Highly educated, Ms. Gillman graduated summa cum laude from Felician College (now Felician University) with a Bachelor of Arts in education in 1980. Subsequently, she received a Master of Arts in education from New York University in 1982.

As a testament to her success, Ms. Gillman has been the recipient of numerous accolades. She earned the Urhy Thompson Award from The Calhoun School and the Young Teachers Incentive Award from the Professional Children's School. In 2025, she was nominated for the Garden State Region Women of Achievement Award from Congregation Beth Sholom in Teaneck, New Jersey, having formerly been honored among the Top 10 Influential Voices Transforming the Education Sector by Fortunes Time Magazine and the Most Inspiring Businesswomen to Follow by Enterprise Magazine, both in 2024. In 2025, Ms. Gillman was nominated and selected as "Top Educator of the Year 2025" by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).

Featured extensively in Forbes, Vogue and The Wall Street Journal, Ms. Gillman has also lent her expertise to scholarly publications. In 2024, her article "Interdisciplinary Learning Creates a Classroom of Creation and Inclusion" was featured in the National Digest. She was also published in the Science Teachers Bulletin (STANYS) with her article "Bridges, Buildings and Structures, Oh My!"

In past years, Ms. Gillman has been a workshop presenter for STEMteachersNYC, NSTA, STANYS and the NYSAIS Diversity Symposium. She had her article, "Straw Rockets are Out of This World," published in "Science and Children," a publication from NSTA. It was later chosen to appear in the book "Bringing STEM to the Elementary Classroom," a publication from NSTA Press, in 2016. This year, Ms. Gillman also contributed materials for a new book from Corwin Publishers, titled "What Teachers Want to Know About Teaching Climate Change."

To remain abreast of developments within her fields of interest, Ms. Gillman is a member of NSTA, STANYS, and Science Educators for Equity, Diversity and Social Justice. Outside her professional obligations, she is an accomplished violinist and performance pianist. Having performed in numerous orchestras, such as the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, The August Symphony Orchestra and the North Jersey Symphony Orchestra, she is exceptionally proud of her diversified work.
