ATHENS, OH, November 10, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Steven M. Grimes, physics educator and researcher with Ohio University, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the October/November 2022 Ohio regional issue of Forbes magazine.
Inspired by physics and engineering from a young age, Dr. Grimes has since become a renowned nuclear astrophysicist, researcher and educator. His involvement in the sciences began early on when he assisted his father, who was an engineer, in designing the family home. During this process, Dr. Grimes discussed with his father at length the complexities of heating, cooling and electrical systems.
Following the receipt of a PhD, Dr. Grimes was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Basel in Switzerland for one year and at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California for an additional year. Hired by the laboratory soon thereafter, he served as a physicist from 1971 to 1981 before departing from his prominent role. During the latter stages of his tenure, he began teaching as a visiting professor at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, in 1978 and was soon hired full-time as a physics professor in 1981. At Ohio University, Dr. Grimes served as a researcher and director of the Edwards Accelerator Laboratory until 1991. He was named a distinguished professor in 2001 and a distinguished professor emeritus in 2011.
Dr. Grimes consults for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. Sought after for his abundant experience in the field of astrophysics, he has contributed his expertise to a number of articles published in professional and scientific journals. Moreover, he served as an editor for "Moment Methods" in 1979 and "Neutron-Nucleus Collisions" in 1985.
Dr. Grimes believes that the next generation of professionals in the field of astrophysics should be personally invested in the topic and consider it a captivating area of focus. For his efforts in science and academia, Dr. Grimes was included in the 72nd edition of Who's Who in America. In his free time, he enjoys reading, photography and traveling.
EDUCATION HIGHLIGHTS
In 1963, Dr. Grimes earned a Bachelor of Science from Stanford University. Later, he attended the University of Wisconsin, from which he earned a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1964 and 1968, respectively. During this time, he became a member of such honorable societies as Sigma Xi and Phi Beta Kappa.
AWARD HIGHLIGHTS
Dr. Grimes is a fellow of the American Physical Society. As a testament to his success, he was named an Outstanding Referee in 2008 in recognition of the work he has conducted throughout his career.
