WASHINGTON, D.C., November 14, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Robert J. Powers has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Powers has carved a prominent career in legislative and federal affairs, particularly within the nuclear energy sector. For two decades, he has served as the senior director of federal affairs at the Nuclear Energy Institute, where his expertise in congressional affairs and both substantive and procedural legislation has been widely recognized. His tenure at the institute began in 2006 when he assumed the role of senior director of legislative programs. Since then, he has played a pivotal role in shaping policy and advocating for the advancement of clean energy initiatives across the United States.
Prior to joining the Nuclear Energy Institute, Mr. Powers built a reputation for effective leadership and innovation within the Building Trades. In 2002, he helped found the Helmets to Hardhats program, an initiative designed to assist military personnel and veterans in transitioning to careers within the construction industry. Under his guidance, the program secured critical congressional funding, enabling it to provide meaningful employment opportunities for those who served in the armed forces. This milestone, which reflects his commitment to public service and workforce development, remains one of his proudest professional achievements.
Throughout his career, Mr. Powers has demonstrated a deep commitment to continuous learning, professional growth and industry engagement. He is an active member of the National Democratic Club, having been previously elected to its Board of Governors, the National Institute for Lobbying and Ethics and the National Energy Resources Organization, affiliations that have allowed him to remain at the forefront of policy discussions and legislative developments affecting the energy sector.
Mr. Powers' academic foundation was laid at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelor's degree in 1986. The education he received there provided him with essential analytical skills and a broad perspective that have proven invaluable throughout his career in the energy sector. Reflecting on his journey thus far, he attributes much of his success to his ability to listen attentively to others — a quality he believes is often overlooked but crucial for effective leadership and collaboration.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Powers has maintained a strong commitment to civic engagement over the years. He served as past president of the Father's Club at Gonzaga College High School, which brings fathers and male guardians together to build friendships and engage in community service initiatives. Furthermore, he has contributed as a lector at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Alexandria, VA, volunteered at a food bank in Washington, D.C., supported the Special Olympics and animal welfare as a donor to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), and contributed to various charities in his hometown of Butler, PA, underscoring his desire to help others through everything he does.
Happily married for more than 30 years, Mr. Powers is a dedicated family man and proud father who cherishes spending quality time with his two sons. Looking to the future with determination, he remains focused on advancing nuclear energy both domestically and around the world through his ongoing work at the Nuclear Energy Institute.
