SAINT PAUL, MN, November 18, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Janis Hollenbeck has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Hollenbeck's distinguished career in academia and nursing spans over three decades, marked by significant contributions to education and health care. Her journey began, for a brief time, in Minneapolis, MN, and Lawton, OK, followed by a move to Germany, where she worked as a civilian registered nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit and pediatric unit of a military hospital from 1967 to 1974, when she returned to the US. This experience laid the foundation for her subsequent roles in the United States, where she transitioned into academia.
In 1974, Ms. Hollenbeck began a teaching career that lasted until 1988. In this role, she was a founding faculty member of a MN ADN program during which she played a pivotal part in shaping the curriculum and ensuring the program met rigorous academic standards. Her dedication to education led her to become the director of an associate degree nursing program at a MN community college from 1988 to 1996.
Ms. Hollenbeck's leadership skills were further recognized when she became the dean of nursing and allied health programs, assigned technical programs, and later, became the dean of math and science at Minneapolis Community and Technical College over the 1996 to 2009 period of time. During her tenure, she achieved notable milestones, including the accreditation of technical programs and the development of a new science center. She played a pivotal role in designing this state-of-the-art facility alongside faculty and architects. Additionally, she was proud of establishing an associate degree in biotechnology that guaranteed graduates acceptance into the University of Minnesota's biotech major.
After retiring from her deanship in 2009, Ms. Hollenbeck continued to contribute to academia by mentoring new deans at Minneapolis Community and Technical College until June 2010. She also authored a book, at the request of the college administration, focused specifically on the work and functions of college deans, where she shared her wealth of knowledge and experience with future leaders.
Ms. Hollenbeck's educational background includes coursework in psychiatric nursing at the master's level, and a Master of Science in childbearing, childrearing and family nursing from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and a Bachelor of Science in nursing with a focus on psychology from Macalester College. She attributes her success to her parents' strong interest in education, which instilled in her a lifelong passion for learning and teaching.
Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Hollenbeck has been actively involved in civic organizations. She volunteered at Planned Parenthood, where was involved in the clinical assignment of nursing students, and also taught non-English-speaking elders at a Vietnamese community center. Her commitment to education and community service earned her the Instructional Leadership Award from the National Council of Instructional Administrators in 2010.
In her personal life, Ms. Hollenbeck was born in Willmar, MN, and is a devoted mother to one son. She enjoys reading and riding horses, pursuits that provide balance to her accomplished career.
