Throughout his tenure, his career has taken him throughout the world, working for some of the most notable organizations. Since 2019, Dr. Boccuzzi has served as a principal at NVIDIA in Santa Clara, California. In this capacity, he interacts with customers on next-generation telecommunication network plans, defines end-to-end (E2E) solutions tailored to deliver diverse AI-native needs and collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure deployment of optimal 5G & 6G products. Among Dr. Boccuzzi's most notable achievements since joining NVIDIA has been his contribution to the team that delivered the first software-defined, GPU-based, AI-native RAN solution called Aerial, reflecting his dedication to addressing complex global challenges through technology.
Before joining NVIDIA, Dr. Boccuzzi was a principal wireless access system architect at Intel Corporation from 2014 to 2019, where he played a pivotal role in defining & developing advanced commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) wireless solutions for Cloud-RAN (C-RAN). He was the wireless system architect of the look-a-side accelerator for Intel's CPUs. Dr. Boccuzzi's expertise was also demonstrated during his tenure as director of CPE system architectures at Mindspeed Technologies between 2011 and 2014, where he led 3G and 4G architectural designs & strategies for baseband (BB) and radio frequency (RF) SoCs and wireless platforms for small cell applications.
From 2003 to 2011, Dr. Boccuzzi excelled as a senior principal scientist at Broadcom. His work focused on innovative wireless communication technologies such as a single BB & RF SoC (including GPS, BT, WiFi and 2G/3G/4G), resulting in several patents that have had a lasting impact on the industry.
Dr. Boccuzzi served as the director of the East Coast Design Center at Morphics Technology from 1999 to 2002, leading a world-wide, multi-discipline team defining reconfigurable BB processors for base stations and portable handsets. He worked as an architect at Infineon Technologies between 2002 and 2003, after the acquisition of Morphics Technology.
Dr. Boccuzzi also achieved success in the classroom, serving as an adjunct professor at his alma mater, the Polytechnic School of Engineering at New York University (NYU) in Brooklyn, from 1999 to 2000 and instructor for Besser Associates, from 1996, where he influenced future engineers through instruction and mentorship of Wireless Digital Communications and Digital Signal Processing (DSP).
Among Dr. Boccuzzi's earlier roles, Dr. Boccuzzi worked as a technical manager at Cadence Design Systems between 1995 and 1999 designing a wide variety of solutions to various challenging areas such as cable modems, signal processing for WCDMA handsets and base stations, satellite modems, and power line communications. He was also a member of the technical staff at AT&T Bell Labs from 1992 to 1995, where he was part of the pioneering team that developed signal processing algorithms (TDMA & CDMA) and their first 2G cell phone. Dr. Boccuzzi's early years included his role as an engineer at Motorola's Applied Research group between 1988 and 1992, during which he gained experience in wireless communications via system simulations, performance evaluation, and analyzing implementation tradeoffs.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Boccuzzi's early interest in engineering and mathematics set the foundation for a lifelong pursuit of excellence in the field. Following high school, he studied locally, earning a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the Polytechnic School of Engineering at NYU in 1988. Dr. Boccuzzi later acquired a Master of Science in electrical engineering from Florida Atlantic University in 1992 and a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical engineering with a minor in mathematics from the Polytechnic School of Engineering at NYU in 2005.
In addition to his formal education, Dr. Boccuzzi has remained informed of ongoing industry advancements and professional standards as a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). A prolific author and thought leader, he has contributed extensively to publications and conferences worldwide. His research articles have appeared in leading journals and conferences, including the IEEE Wireless Communication Magazine, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference and the IEEE GLOBECOM.
Dr. Boccuzzi has also co-authored several books, including "Signal Processing for Wireless Communications" by McGraw Hill in 2008, "Femtocells: Design and Application" by McGraw Hill in 2010 and chapter contributions to "Multiple Access Techniques for 5G Wireless Networks and Beyond" via Springer in 2018. Additionally, he has been an invited speaker before the Mobile World Congress Los Angeles & Barcelona, NVIDIA's GTC Conference and 5G/6G World Expo.
Dr. Boccuzzi's portfolio includes an array of patents covering critical advancements in signal processing, such as automatic frequency control for cellular base stations, channel quality estimation and robust detection & estimation, equalization as well as system architectures for AI-native solutions for O-RAN deployments, all demonstrating his sustained contributions to wireless communication systems.
His work has gained recognition as recipient of various distinguished innovation awards: Team Award, Division Recognition Award, Cellular Innovation Award, and a Distinguished Innovative Award.
