Before his current role, Mr. Ashley served as director of national accounts at The HON Company from 2007 to 2008. In this position, he oversaw key business relationships and contributed to the company's growth during a challenging economic period. From 2005 to 2007, he served as director of marketing at The HON Company, where he led marketing initiatives and developed strategies that enhanced brand visibility and market share.
From 2004 to 2005, Mr. Ashley served as the general manager of national accounts at Thomson, where he managed large-scale business operations and cultivated major client partnerships. His leadership extended into the technology sector as general manager of the flat panel business for Thomson from 2003 to 2004, where he oversaw product launches and expanded market reach.
From 2001 to 2003, Mr. Ashley was vice president and general manager of dealer sales for RCA and GE Consumer Electronics at Thomson. In this executive role, he directed nationwide sales efforts and played a pivotal part in driving revenue growth across multiple product lines.
Mr. Ashley's professional journey began after earning a Bachelor of Business Administration from Kent State University in Ohio in 1975. His academic foundation provided him with essential business acumen, which propelled his early career at General Electric in the major appliance and electronics industry. Starting in Chicago before relocating to Los Angeles, he participated in significant product launches, including microwave ovens and remote control televisions. He advanced through several roles in Los Angeles before moving to New York as regional sales manager for product service. Later assignments included managing sales operations in Arizona and returning to Los Angeles following General Electric's acquisition of RCA.
During the 1980s, Mr. Ashley managed several sales roles in Los Angeles before relocating to New York, Arizona and then back to LA. In the 1990's he transitioned to headquarters in Indianapolis where he managed to Sears account. He increased sales from $110 million to $310 million and while on the account received the Sears Premier Award Partners of Progress beating out 1,200 other vendors. He subsequently transitioned into marketing and sales leadership roles for Thomson Consumer Electronic products nationwide. After General Electric (consumer electronic division) was sold to a French company, Mr. Ashley traveled internationally before leaving the electronics industry after three decades, when a Chinese firm acquired it.
Following his tenure in electronics, Mr. Ashley entered the office furniture sector as director of marketing at The HON Company in Iowa before advancing to director of national sales. The economic downturn in 2008 prompted him to accept a retirement package; however, after a year off assisting family in Ohio, he joined New York Life as an agent and later became a partner. After experiencing personal losses, he returned to an agent role where he continued to excel for several years. Five years ago, Mr. Ashley accepted a retirement package from New York Life but remains active by mentoring others.
Throughout his career, Mr. Ashley has remained actively involved in professional organizations and community service initiatives. He served as a board member for the Great Lakes Region Northeastern Ohio Arthritis Foundation. He was also involved with the diversity, equity, and inclusion division at Kent State University, where he held a board member position. Additionally, he is affiliated with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., reflecting his commitment to leadership development and community engagement.
Mr. Ashley holds the Series 7 & 63 certifications, which has enabled him to provide comprehensive investment advice and further solidify his standing within the financial services industry.
His achievements have been recognized through numerous awards, including the 7-time winner circle award with Thomson Consumer Electronics, 5-time Executive Council Award from New York Life Insurance Company, as well as repeated honors such as 2-time President's Council membership, Million Dollar Round Table status, and multiple Agent of the Year distinctions.
The foundation for Mr. Ashley's success can be traced back to his upbringing in Cleveland within a family that valued hard work and perseverance. His mother, Katherine Ashley, broke barriers as the first African American laboratory technician at the Cleveland Clinic. At the same time, his father, Oscar Ashley Jr., demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit through careers as a chef at Standard Oil and a number of second and third jobs. Growing up during the civil rights era, often as one of the few African Americans present, inspired Mr. Ashley's drive not only for personal achievement but also for opening doors for others.
Mr. Ashley resides in Atlanta with his wife, Renee, as they prepare to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary, a testament to enduring partnership and family values. Their son, Ryan, graduated from Harvard University for his undergraduate and MBA and works in the private equity sector. At the same time, their daughter, Shannon, attended Spelman College, followed by Boston University School of Medicine, and then became a practicing doctor in Atlanta after completing her residency at Emory University School of Medicine. The family legacy continues with their grandson, Grayson.
