COLUMBIA, SC, December 03, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Paula R. Hare has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Hare has established a distinguished career in law enforcement since 1994 where she started out with the SCDC. She currently serving as an administrative lieutenant at the Lexington County Sheriff's Department since 2021. In this capacity, she acts as grievance coordinator by managing all inmate grievances within the department, and serves as the classification Lieutenant where she ensures that all inmates are classified correctly within the system. She is also responsible for maintaining comprehensive inmate records and frequently assists the solicitor's office by providing expert testimony on court cases. Additionally, Ms. Hare oversees civilian workers, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with departmental standards.
Throughout her tenure in this role since 2021, Ms. Hare has demonstrated a deep commitment to mentorship and professional development. She takes great pride in sharing her knowledge with staff and guiding those under her supervision to advance in their careers or to become more effective officers. Her passion for teaching and mentoring young people reflects her belief that they represent the future of law enforcement. This dedication to fostering growth among her colleagues has become a hallmark of her leadership style.
Before her current position, Ms. Hare served as a sergeant and correctional officer at the Lexington County Sheriff's Department from 2004 to 2021. During these seventeen years, she developed expertise within her profession, earning recognition for her ability to engage and positively influence young individuals within the corrections system. Her experience in these roles provided a strong foundation for her subsequent leadership responsibilities.
Ms. Hare earned her Certified Corrections Supervisor (CCS) certification in 2018 and she is an active member of several professional organizations, including the South Carolina Law Enforcement Assistance Program (SCLEAP) since 2023 and the Rotary Club in South Carolina since 2020. These affiliations have enabled her to remain connected with industry peers and contribute to broader community initiatives.
Her educational background includes coursework in criminal justice, which has been instrumental in shaping her understanding of legal procedures and correctional best practices. She earned a diploma from Eau Claire High School in Columbia, South Carolina, in 1985. Ms. Hare further enhanced her qualifications by completing several on-line and in person training. Ms. Hare attributes her success to her upbringing and resilient mindset, which have empowered her to transform negative experiences into positive outcomes throughout her career. She believes anyone can be a change agent and become a positive force in any environment.
Her entry into corrections was influenced by practical considerations, as a single parent working as a certified nurse technician on an orthopedic floor at a hospital. Although she initially aspired to become a nurse and completed all prerequisite classes, a lengthy waiting list for nursing school prompted her to consider alternative career paths.
Encouraged by others who recognized her composure and professionalism, she transitioned into corrections, a field offering better benefits and higher pay, allowing her to provide for her child while making a meaningful impact.
Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Hare is deeply involved in civic activities. Since 2023, she has volunteered at recruiting events and has contributed time to the Juvenile Arbitration Program through the Solicitor's Office. She is also a supporter of various charitable causes through participation in oyster roast fundraisers and serves as a volunteer with her mother at food share events.
Born in Newberry County, Ms. Hare is the proud parent of one son. In her personal life, she enjoys sports (especially football- go eagles) and reading. Looking ahead, she plans to retire from her current profession but intends to remain engaged in opportunities to help others. She aspires to become a victims' advocate for children and older people, motivated to give voice to those who are often overlooked or vulnerable or re-entry into the medical field.
After thirty one (31) years of corrections, Ms. Hare's career reflects unwavering dedication to public service, mentorship and advocacy, qualities that have defined her legacy within the Lexington County Sheriff's Department and beyond.
