Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Placet has established herself as a prominent figure in the field of artificial intelligence and technology leadership, most recently serving as the embeddable AI watsonx tech lead for IBM client engineering since 2025. In this capacity, she is responsible for identifying critical gaps in the marketplace, discerning which use cases resonate most with clients and enabling teams to develop innovative solutions that address unmet needs. Her role also involves a comprehensive assessment of opportunities by benchmarking IBM's offerings against competitors, thereby enhancing the targeting of sales and solutions for clients. Her previous leadership as regional lead for the Northeast, where she oversaw all AI engineers, including those based in India, stands as her most significant professional achievement. This position not only demonstrated her ability to manage diverse teams across multiple time zones but also underscored her commitment to expanding IBM's reach beyond the American market, resulting in increased sales and revenue and a broader global impact.

Prior to her current appointment, Ms. Placet was an AI engineer within IBM client engineering from 2024 to 2025. During this period, she contributed to the development and deployment of advanced artificial intelligence solutions, collaborating closely with both domestic and international teams. Her expertise in generative artificial intelligence and large language models was instrumental in driving innovation and delivering value to clients.

From 2022 to 2024, Ms. Placet served as a data scientist for IBM client engineering. In this role, she applied her analytical skills to extract actionable insights from complex datasets, supporting the creation of data-driven strategies that informed product development and client engagement initiatives.

In 2022, Ms. Placet completed IBM's global sales school, where she distinguished herself by winning the Demo to Win Week competition. This experience further honed her ability to bridge technical expertise with business acumen, a skill set that continues to define her approach to technology leadership.

Ms. Placet began her professional journey as a teaching assistant in the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Mississippi in 2021. She also gained industry experience as a technical solutions specialist intern at IBM during the same year.

Her academic background has been foundational to her success. Ms. Placet earned a Bachelor of Arts in computer science from the University of Mississippi, graduating after just six semesters—a testament to her dedication and intellectual capability. She previously obtained an Associate of Arts from Rio Salado College while still in high school through advanced and dual enrollment classes. Her early passion for technology was evident from childhood, but it was during high school computer science courses that she discovered her true calling in computing and artificial intelligence.

Ms. Placet is also recognized for her commitment to education through teaching various college courses, including at New York University and community colleges nationwide. She takes pride in giving back by instructing future technologists and supporting former mentors.

Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Placet is actively engaged in civic initiatives. She volunteers with Girls Have IT Day and St. Mary's Food Bank, participates in the Lexus Eco Challenge and aided in founding the Caroline McCollum Simrall Hood Memorial Scholarship at the University of Mississippi. Her academic excellence has been acknowledged through repeated inclusion on the Dean's List at the University of Mississippi.

Outside of work, Ms. Placet enjoys traveling as well as playing tennis and learning to golf. Looking ahead, she is focused on expanding into global markets by leveraging her experience collaborating with teams in India and aims to extend her technological influence into Asia-Pacific and European regions. She remains dedicated to understanding go-to-market strategies for new technologies while ensuring their competitiveness within an evolving marketplace. Her goal is to bridge the gap between technology and business needs in the marketplace, considering not only business outcomes but also seeking to touch people emotionally and inspire a better world.
