Dr. McCabe's professional journey spans more than five decades and is distinguished by a commitment to education, public service, and international diplomacy. For the past seven years, Dr. McCabe has taught at Park View High School in Sterling, Virginia. He teaches mathematics and, during two of those years, chaired the Math Department. Dr. McCabe's tenure at Park View High School began in 2018 as a social science teacher, following a time as a long-term substitute mathematics teacher. Before joining Park View High School, Dr. McCabe served as a substitute teacher from 2016 to 2018 across eastern Loudoun County Public Schools' high schools and middle schools, gaining valuable experience in diverse educational settings.

Dr. McCabe pivoted into education after more than 15 years in the commercial sector in Maine. During this period, Dr. McCabe worked as an assistant at a local gift store from 2000 to 2016 and was president of a regional chamber of commerce and chairman of a regional birding festival during five of those years. He chaired the writing and editorial committee of the DownEast & Acadia Birding Trail Map between 2007 and 2011 and worked as an advertising representative and writer for Maine Sunshine Travel Guides from 2001 to 2005. In 2007, Dr. McCabe received the Chamber Volunteer of the Year Award from the Maine State Chamber of Commerce. In 2003, he was co-awardee of the Maine Tourism Association's Regional Award for Promoting Tourism in DownEast & Acadia.

Dr. McCabe's earlier career was marked by significant contributions to the U.S. Department of State from 1981 to 1999, for which he received five awards for service. Notably, he served as the director for APEC and OECD, International Communications and Information Policy, in the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs from 1996 to 1999, leading U.S. delegations to major international meetings. He was also the director of the policy support division in the Bureau of Oceans, Environmental and Scientific Affairs and the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor between 1993 and 1995. Dr. McCabe's diplomatic assignments included deputy environment, science and technology counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo from 1989 to 1993, first secretary of political affairs at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi between 1986 and 1989, second secretary and consul for consular affairs at the U.S. Embassy in London from 1983 to 1986, and third secretary and vice consul for consular and administrative affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Manila between 1981 and 1983.

Dr. McCabe's professional foundation was established through military service, following his graduation from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. From 1970 to 1978, he taught extensively during his active and reserve military service, which fostered his passion for education.

Dr. McCabe will retire in 2026 from Loudoun County Public Schools. His idea of retirement is to continue educating but through different means. This month, as Dr. McCabe begins preparing for his retirement, he became a published poet. Dr. McCabe now is working on his first book.
