SUGAR LAND, TX, December 11, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Raul Sarmiento has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Sarmiento, a distinguished expert in geophysics, has built a remarkable career defined by technical excellence, leadership and innovation across the global energy sector. His most recent professional chapter was with EOG Resources, where he served as Chief Geophysicist and Senior Geophysical Advisor from 2008 to 2024. In this capacity, he provided strategic guidance on exploration and production projects, leveraging his deep expertise to drive operational success. His tenure at EOG Resources was marked by his commitment to advancing geophysical methodologies and fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary teams. During this period, he maintained active membership in the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Houston Geophysical Society and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, reflecting his ongoing engagement with the broader scientific community.

Prior to his work at EOG Resources, Mr. Sarmiento held the role of Senior Executive Geophysical Consultant at Enron in Houston from 1993 to 2002. This period stands out as a pinnacle in his career due to his groundbreaking contributions to Enron's operations in India. He initiated and led projects during the company's bidding process for exploration blocks, notably identifying the overlooked Pana and Mukta oil fields. Although Enron's primary focus was on gas assets, his data interpretation and strategic advice prompted the company to pursue these oil fields. Over nine and a half years, he managed the geophysical activity over two major projects in India, transforming a field producing approximately 6,000 barrels per day into one yielding 35,000 barrels daily. This achievement was realized through the application of advanced three-dimensional surveys and collaboration with a skilled team of geologists and carbonate specialists. The enduring impact of this project is celebrated by Mr. Sarmiento and his colleagues, who continue to commemorate their shared success.

From 1989 to 1993, Mr. Sarmiento served as a Geophysical Manager at Heritage Exploration and Production. In this leadership position, he oversaw exploration initiatives and contributed to the company's growth through innovative seismic analysis and project management. His earlier experience includes serving as a Senior Geophysicist at Oxy in Bakersfield, California from 1988 to 1989. There, he applied advanced geophysical techniques to support exploration activities in complex geological settings.

Mr. Sarmiento's international career began as a Chief Geophysicist at HOCOL in Bogotá, Colombia from 1982 to 1988. He directed geophysical operations for exploration projects throughout Colombia, building foundational expertise that would inform his later achievements. He entered the profession as a geophysical trainee with SUNRAY Colombia in Bogotá from 1980 to 1982, where he gained essential field experience and developed a passion for subsurface exploration.

Mr. Sarmiento's academic background has been instrumental in shaping his professional accomplishments. He earned a Master of Science in Geophysics from the University of Houston in 1987, equipping him with advanced analytical skills that have underpinned his technical leadership throughout his career. He also holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, completed in 1980. This rigorous engineering education provided a strong foundation for his transition into geophysics and subsequent industry contributions.

In recognition of his professional qualifications, Mr. Sarmiento holds a Texas professional geoscientist license. This credential underscores his commitment to maintaining high standards of practice within the field.

Throughout his career, Mr. Sarmiento has been honored for both technical excellence and thoughtful leadership. Notably, he received the Best Paper Award from the Canadian Society of Geophysics in 2009 for his contributions to advancing geophysical research.

Mr. Sarmiento attributes his success to hard work and an enduring sense of curiosity, qualities he regards as essential for innovation and problem solving within science and engineering disciplines. He emphasizes perseverance as a key driver of achievement and encourages others to cultivate curiosity as a means of discovering new opportunities.

Born in Bogotá, Mr. Sarmiento is also dedicated to supporting others beyond his professional endeavors. He is the father of Javier Alexander and Felipe Andres and remains actively engaged with industry peers even after retirement. Upon rejoining the SCG, he became involved in collaborative projects that allow him to contribute expertise while benefiting from access to emerging software technologies, a mutually rewarding arrangement.

Looking ahead, Mr. Sarmiento is committed to assisting his family, giving back to the educational institutions that shaped his journey and helping others achieve their goals. He continues to be inspired by the enduring promise of opportunity within America.

Mr. Sarmiento's legacy is defined by technical mastery, impactful mentorship and an unwavering dedication to advancing both science and society through geophysics.
