Prior to his current position, Dr. Abdelmawgoud served as principal systems engineer at Raytheon Missiles & Defense from 2022 to 2025. During this period, he contributed significantly to the advancement of guidance systems and played a pivotal role in product development initiatives. From 2019 to 2022, he was a senior systems engineer at the same organization, where he further honed his expertise in missile guidance technologies and led several high-impact projects.

Dr. Abdelmawgoud's earlier professional experience includes his tenure as a research engineer at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas from 2014 to 2019. While there, he was a key team member involved in designing the world's largest conception robot—a milestone that stands among his most notable achievements. His innovative work earned him the Excellence in Engineering and Technology Award from Southwest Research Institute in 2017 and the Best Paper Award at the IEEE World Automation Congress in 2018.

His foundational years included serving as a graduate researcher at The University of Texas at San Antonio Unmanned System Laboratory from 2013 to 2016, where he contributed to pioneering research in unmanned systems. Dr. Abdelmawgoud began his professional journey as a manufacture engineer with EControls in San Antonio from 2012 to 2014.

In addition to his primary roles, Dr. Abdelmawgoud is also an adjunct professor at the University of Arizona since 2020, where he imparts knowledge to future engineers and fosters academic growth. He serves as a design, build, fly report judge for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, further demonstrating his commitment to advancing aerospace education.

Dr. Abdelmawgoud's expertise has been recognized through numerous accolades. He received the Innovator of the Year award at Raytheon for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024 and was honored with the Spot Award for Innovation in both 2021 and 2022. His collaborative spirit was acknowledged with the Spot Award for Collaboration in 2022 and the CORE Apprentice Award that same year. In recognition of his leadership and impact on engineering innovation, he was selected for the Arizona Daily Star's 40 Under 40 list in 2021.

Dr. Abdelmawgoud earned a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical and electronics engineering from The University of Texas at San Antonio in 2019 after completing a Master of Science in electrical and electronics engineering from the same institution in 2015. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from The University of Texas at San Antonio, awarded in 2012. These academic achievements have provided him with a robust foundation for applying complex mathematical and physical concepts to real-world engineering challenges—an approach that continues to drive his success.

Dr. Abdelmawgoud has also obtained significant professional certifications including earned value management system certification from Raytheon Missiles & Defense in 2020 and lean six sigma black belt certification, underscoring his commitment to operational excellence.

He maintains active memberships with leading industry organizations such as the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, reflecting his dedication to staying at the forefront of technological advancements.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Dr. Abdelmawgoud is committed to community service as a volunteer with The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona since 2023 and Habitat for Humanity International during that same year.
