DURHAM, NC, December 17, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lisa Mae Lewis has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Lewis has established a distinguished career as a string instructor at Duke University String School, a role she has held for nearly five years. In this capacity, she teaches chamber music with a focus on string quartets each semester and provides private instruction in viola and violin. Her expertise in string instruments is further demonstrated through her management of a chamber music group and guidance of about 20 private students.

In addition to her position at Duke University String School, Ms. Lewis instructs Suzuki violin lessons at R.N. Harris Elementary School, where she introduces music to young students in a Title I setting and brings music education to children who might not otherwise have access. She is responsible for teaching approximately 120 out of 300 students at the school.

For two decades prior to her tenure at Duke University String School, Ms. Lewis engaged in professional performance and educational leadership in the Los Angeles area. During this time, she performed with the Long Beach Symphony, the Fresno Philharmonic, the Beverly Hills Symphony, Los Angeles Camerata and the Disneyland Candlelight Orchestra. She also managed the Lewis Academy of Music as its chief executive officer, providing private lessons and mentoring aspiring musicians. In addition she was an adjunct music professor at Cypress College.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Lewis was active in the Northeast's vibrant music scene. She performed with the Boston Chamber Ensemble, the Vermont Symphony , New Hampshire Symphony, and the Rhode Island Philharmonic. Her versatility as a musician was evident through her solo performances in Broadway productions such as "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" and "Always… Patsy Cline." She also served as a violin and viola coach for the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras, nurturing young talent through private instruction.

Laying the foundation for Ms. Lewis's professional journey was her academic background, which began with a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in strings from Arizona State University in 1992. Following graduation, she accepted a position with the North East Independent School District in Texas, where she started a fiddle group that gained local recognition through public performances and media coverage. The following year, she joined the Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications & Fine Arts as the head of the string department and string consultant for the district, organizing auditions and hiring professional musicians from the San Antonio Symphony to teach cello and bass.

Motivated to further refine her artistry, Ms. Lewis pursued graduate studies at The Boston Conservatory , where she received both a scholarship and graduate assistantship. She earned a Master of Music in Viola performance from the institution in 1996.

Throughout her approximately 30-year professional music career, Ms. Lewis has achieved numerous milestones. Among her most memorable experiences are performing with Andrea Bocelli, John Williams, and Peter, Paul, and Mary. She has also worked alongside celebrated musicians such as Hilary Hahn, Yo Yo Ma, and Sarah Chang.

Ms. Lewis's international touring experience includes representing ensembles in Spain, Italy, China and across Europe and the United States with Opera A La Carte, and her discography features an extensive list of recordings including recording two Violin-Play-Along Disney Books for the Hal Leonard Publishing Company. She remains current in her industry through her active membership in several professional organizations, including the American Federation of Musicians and the North Carolina Music Educators Association.

Reflecting on her career, Ms. Lewis credits her success to unwavering drive, ambition and commitment to excellence — qualities instilled through years of daily music practice beginning at age four. Her dedication extended into college years despite balancing rigorous schedules of performing and teaching privately while establishing her own music academy. Looking ahead, she intends to continue making an impact at Duke University String School while returning to performance opportunities within North Carolina's musical community as she transitions toward retirement from elementary teaching.
