Mr. Silverman has built a distinguished career at the intersection of law, technology and innovation, marked by decades of leadership and expertise. Since 1997, he has served as an attorney with the Law Offices of A. Jared Silverman, where he advises technology-based startups and entrepreneurs on legal and business matters. His practice is recognized for its focus on entrepreneurial law, international transactions and transactional work. Mr. Silverman provides guidance to clients entering new markets, expanding internationally and navigating complex financial transactions, often serving as an escrow agent and paymaster. His unique systems analysis perspective, rooted in his engineering background, enables him to approach client challenges holistically, considering interconnected outcomes and offering practical solutions for organizational management.
Prior to establishing his own practice, Mr. Silverman was chief of the New Jersey Bureau of Securities for five years. In this capacity, he made a significant impact by being the first to recognize the implications of the internet for securities sales. He led efforts to create consumer warnings for online securities transactions, an achievement he considers the highlight of his career due to its public service value and global influence. During his tenure, he also chaired the North American Securities Administrators Association and founded its Internet Committee, further cementing his reputation as a forward-thinking leader in regulatory innovation. His work garnered national attention through television appearances and interviews in major publications.
From 1975 through 1976, at AT&T, Mr. Silverman practiced before the Federal Communications Commission to introduce new services. Subsequently, as a member of the Bell System trial team in U.S. v. AT&T , he was responsible for developing and presenting testimony on monopolization, industry structure, horizontal and vertical integration, pricing, and network engineering through company witnesses and outside experts. From 1986 to 1990, Mr. Silverman contributed his expertise in antitrust law at AT&T, where he navigated complex legal issues during a transformative period for the telecommunications industry.
Previously in his career, while an associate at Huber, Magill, Lawrence & Farrell, Mr. Silverman spent five years practicing utilities law with a focus on natural gas regulation at the Federal Power Commission, gaining valuable experience in regulatory frameworks and energy sector operations. In this position, he honed his skills in corporate law and litigation. He then served as director of operations planning at the American Stock Exchange for two years, overseeing strategic initiatives that improved operational efficiency within the financial sector. His professional career began as a planning engineer at Western Electric from 1963 to 1971.
Mr. Silverman's commitment to public service extended into politics. In this regard, he ran as a candidate for the New Jersey State Senate in 2001 and for the United States House of Representatives in 2002. His academic credentials are equally impressive. He earned a Master of Laws in international legal studies from the New York University School of Law in 1975 after receiving a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the New York Law School in 1970, where he graduated first in his class. He also holds a Master of Science in operations research and a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from Columbia's School of Engineering and Applied Science. Admitted to the New York, New Jersey and District of Columbia Bars, Mr. Silverman credits his client-oriented approach and thoroughness, shaped by both engineering and legal training, for his professional success.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Silverman has been actively involved with civic organizations, such as the Jewish Federation of Metrowest New Jersey from 1986 to 2010. He takes pride in having identified internet-related securities issues that gained worldwide attention during his time at the Bureau of Securities.
Growing up in a politically active family with a father who practiced general law inspired Mr. Silverman's dual interests in technology and public service. Initially drawn toward pursuing a doctorate in operations research, he ultimately chose law school after recognizing the growing importance of computer law. In his spare time, he enjoys writing, sharing his insights with peers, reading, studying history, traveling and photography. Looking ahead, Mr. Silverman intends to continue practicing law while sharing his accumulated knowledge with future generations so they may benefit from his experience. He encourages those entering the field to pursue their passions wholeheartedly, believing that fulfillment comes from following one's true interests rather than solely seeking financial gain.
