He also trained new hires and managed line checks. Initially hired by the Hawaiian Island chain in 2015, Mr. Brumskill contributed significantly as both a B-737 check airman and captain. Additionally, during this period, he fulfilled duties as part 121 check airman, captain and first officer, further solidifying his reputation as a trusted leader in commercial aviation.
From 2020 to 2025, Mr. Brumskill served as a captain on the B-767 for Northern Air Cargo. He also worked as a civilian flight instructor with Midfield Aviation, where he imparted his extensive knowledge to aspiring pilots, emphasizing safety, precision and professionalism.
Mr. Brumskill's aviation career is deeply rooted in his exemplary military service. He served 25 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 2014. From 1989 to 2014, he served as the worldwide air refueling chief for standardization/evaluation operations, participating in critical missions such as Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, Northern Watch and Southern Watch. He also flew missions over Bosnia and Kosovo and was actively involved in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom following the events of September 11th. From 1997 to 2002, Mr. Brumskill also held the roles of C-9 evaluator, instructor and aircraft commander with the U.S. Air Force. Throughout his military career, he was entrusted with flying distinguished visitors out of Europe, including First Lady Hillary Clinton, Senator John McCain and, among others, Senator Joe Lieberman.
Beyond piloting, Mr. Brumskill's expertise earned him the opportunity to serve as a stunt pilot for the 2019 Netflix original film "Triple Frontier" while stationed in Hawaii.
Mr. Brumskill earned a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 1988, where he also excelled athletically, playing Division I baseball and football. He later acquired a master's degree in adult education from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2002. This advanced study provided him with valuable insights into effective instruction and leadership, which have proven essential throughout his career as both a pilot and instructor. In addition to his degrees, Mr. Brumskill holds several Federal Aviation Administration certifications, including as an aircraft flight instructor and airline transport pilot. He also possesses a restricted radiotelephone operator permit from the Federal Communications Commission. These credentials underscore his technical proficiency and dedication to maintaining the highest standards within aviation.
Active in his industry, Mr. Brumskill is affiliated with the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, the Tuskegee Airmen and the Airlift/Tanker Association. Beyond his professional pursuits, he is committed to giving back through civic engagement. He is a contributor to Wounded Warriors and various cancer charities, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Mr. Brumskill's varied achievements have been recognized through numerous awards. He was named Offensive Rookie of the Year in Semi-Pro football. He also received Wing and Unit Level Awards from the U.S. Air Force and was a national bodybuilding champion for his dedication to weightlifting.
