His work examining political partisanship and its impact on mergers and acquisitions in the United States has been cited by the Financial Times. In addition to research, Dr. Patel teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in international finance. Dr. Patel earned his Doctor of Philosophy in finance and business economics from the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington in 2020. He previously earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance and economics, magna cum laude with high honors, from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia in 2010, where he also served as portfolio manager for the Student-Managed Investment Fund. In addition, Dr. Patel obtained a Certificate of Personal and Organizational Leadership from the Institute of Leadership Advancement. Prior to his undergraduate studies, Dr. Patel graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 2006 from East Coweta High School.

Reflecting on his past, Dr. Patel credits his accomplishments to the guidance and generosity of exceptional teachers and mentors throughout his journey—from elementary school through his doctoral program and to the present—who instilled in him both a commitment to professional excellence and a desire to make a positive impact. Dr. Patel began his education career as a corps member with Teach For America from 2010 to 2012, serving a low-income community in the Mississippi Delta region. From 2012 to 2014, Dr. Patel worked as a licensed real estate professional with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers and as a real estate investment analyst for Shri Shakti Inc., focusing on affordable single-family housing.

In addition to his academic and professional roles, Dr. Patel is involved in organizations in his field including the American Economic Association, the American Finance Association, the Financial Management Association, and the Financial Research Association. He remains engaged in his community through charitable giving and volunteerism, supporting organizations including the Arbor Day Foundation, the local YMCA, and Texas flood relief efforts.
