OAKLAND, CA, January 15, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Annette E. Laverty, MPH, RDN has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Laverty has established a distinguished career in public health and nutrition, marked by more than 25 years of dedicated service to the Alameda County Public Health Department (ACPHD) in California. Since 2022, she has held the position of Associate Director of the Nutrition Services Program, providing strategic leadership and support of the implementation of county-wide nutrition initiatives.

In this capacity, she guides staff of both the Nutrition Services Program and Diabetes Education Program, reviews county jail nutrition inspection reports, and evaluates program outcomes to identify needed adjustments. Laverty's expertise in program oversight, data analysis, and program development has been instrumental in advancing the Public Health Department's mission.

Laverty began her career as a Nutritionist in 2000 by laying the foundation of a community-based nutrition education program, one of the first in the state of California and the entire United States at the time. For over a decade Laverty helped to develop innovative nutrition and physical activity programs for less fortunate populations. In 2013 she was promoted to the position of Program Specialist while continuing to perform the duties of Nutritionist with ACPHD. In short, she has played a pivotal role in creating numerous interdisciplinary programs to support the lives of county residents. Laverty has also provided strong mentorship to more than 40 interns from eight universities across the country, helping to shape academic programs and the next generation of public health professionals. Additionally, she offered leadership to these interns in real world programs.

Among her most notable accomplishments with ACPHD, Laverty led the creation of the program known as Cooking for Health Academy. This ground-breaking program was pilot tested, reviewed by the California Department of Public Health, vetted, and ultimately accepted as a nationally recognized, award-winning program. Designed for low-income adults the program is implemented in libraries, community centers, schools, and housing sites throughout counties that have adopted the program. Laverty also was instrumental in developing Rethink Your Drink, a program designed to support low-income individuals of all ages. This initiative encourages the adoption of healthier beverage choices in place of sugar-sweetened beverages. Rethink Your Drink went nationwide!

Before joining ACPHD and achieving her advanced degree, Laverty spent five years working in clinical nutrition at Summit Medical Center in Oakland, California. This experience motivated her pursuit of a more proactive approach to public health, one of focusing on prevention by addressing health challenges before they begin.

Laverty's academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a minor in Nutrition Science from the University of California, Davis, and a Master of Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley. While at Berkeley, her stint as a Graduate Student Instructor provided experience in teaching and mentoring. Immediately following Berkeley, she worked in curriculum development and subsequent teacher training as a Program Representative for the Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program at the University of California Cooperative Extension. This experience served as the stepping stone to the agency that would ultimately define her career.

Additional credentials include Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and certification in Adult Weight Management from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Throughout her career, Laverty has been an active member of several professional organizations, including Alameda County Nutrition Action Partnership, the Bay Area Nutrition and Physical Activity Collaborative and the California Conference of Local Health Department Nutritionists. For over 15 years, she facilitated the Alameda County Nutrition Action Partnership, guiding her colleagues toward innovative nutrition education projects. This collaborative effort garnered significant recognition for its impact on county public health nutrition initiatives.

Beyond her professional commitments, Laverty has been civically engaged as a foster parent with the East Bay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals since 2008 and is extensively trained as an animal emergency evacuation volunteer with five Bay Area county animal response teams since 2021. Additionally, she serves on the Advisory Board of regional theater company Woodminster Summer Musicals in Oakland, California.

Finally, in her spare time, Laverty has enjoyed a lifelong involvement in the sport of figure skating. As a member of the synchronized figure skating team, Cold Fusion, she placed first in the regional competition in both 2024 and 2025 seasons. Laverty attributes much of her success to the encouragement of her parents and to influential mentors encountered during her studies at the University of California campuses. Looking ahead, she intends to transition into a consulting capacity that will continue to improve programs aimed at the health of the less fortunate.
