He serves as the owner of Northern Shores Dental Group — established in Interlochen, Michigan, in 2021 — where he manages all clinical operations, recruits skilled young dentists and personally handles intricate dental cases. Additionally, it has drawn national recognition from private equity firms impressed by its trajectory and achievements in such a short time.

Prior to founding Northern Shores Dental Group, Dr. Kay delivered high quality dental care in a variety of challenging environments. At the start of his career, he served as the general dentist for three different offices in rural communities. He was one of two dentists statewide to receive an award from Delta Dental of Michigan for his commitment to serving underserved areas. He then provided an integral role in building a startup dental office from scratch and increasing capacity for dental care in two additional offices in Northern Michigan. During the Covid pandemic, he uniquely provided emergency dental services to inmates in one of Michigan's maximum security prisons.

Dr. Kay's equally accomplished academic journey began at the University of Detroit Mercy, where he distinguished himself as the youngest of eight individuals to complete a rigorous accelerated dental program, earning his bachelor's degree in three years instead of four. In 2016, he became one of the youngest in the state to earn a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Kay is deeply involved in both professional and civic organizations. He served on the membership committee for the Michigan Dental Association from 2023 to 2025 and was a board member of the Resort District Dental Society. Also committed to giving back through community service, he silently contributes to local charities, supports small businesses and school programs, and engages in volunteer work at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. His office hosts interns each year and provides support for those individuals looking to grow in the dental profession. He has also served as a mentor to over ten young professionals pursuing careers in dentistry and business.

In honor of his achievements and outstanding clinical practice, Dr. Kay has been recognized with multiple accolades; he was included in the Leaders of Northern Michigan publication by the Traverse City Record Eagle in 2021 shortly after opening his office. His business has been consistently honored as a Top Dental Office locally each year since its opening. In 2025, Dr. Kay was selected for inclusion as both Best Local Businessperson and Best Workplace in The Record Eagle's Simply the Best Awards, of which he was the only dentist to receive this honor. His colleague and associate dentist, Danielle Noble, was selected for inclusion in the 2025 Influential Women of Northern Michigan publication for her contributions to Northern Shores Dental Group under the guidance of Dr. Kay.
