Earlier in his career, Mr. Wells gained valuable experience through various summer positions while attending college. In 1969, he worked at E.J. Korvette's in the furniture department, where he undertook significant physical labor moving furniture and assisting customers. The previous summer, in 1968, he was employed at the post office, further developing his organizational skills. In 1967, he worked in the shoe department at Montgomery Ward before taking a position at a department store later that summer.
His early exposure to scientific research began in the summer of 1966 when he participated in a program designed for high school students aspiring to major in science. This formative experience was followed by a brief service job at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, where he contributed for three weeks before returning to college.
Mr. Wells also served four years in the U.S. Navy as an electroencephalograph technician, where he developed technical expertise and discipline that would inform his later work in statistics and data analysis.
Throughout his career, Mr. Wells maintained active memberships in professional organizations such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science and Ancestry, reflecting his ongoing commitment to scientific inquiry and genealogical research.
Academically, Mr. Wells earned a master's degree in biostatistics from Georgetown University in Washington in 1976. He previously completed a bachelor's degree in biology at Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) in Westminster in 1970. His educational background provided a strong foundation for his analytical work and enabled him to excel in roles requiring both scientific knowledge and statistical acumen.
Mr. Wells attributes his success to his willingness to give his best effort in every endeavor.
