MONROE, MI, January 28, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Elisha Lieto has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Lieto has established herself as a leading expert in trauma, addiction and mental health, with a career spanning 25 years. Since 2021, she has served as a mental health therapist and addictions specialist at Tree by the Sea Counseling in Newport, Michigan. In this capacity, Ms. Lieto works directly with clients both in person and through telehealth services, providing care to individuals from age three through adulthood. She manages a staff of eight therapists, each specializing in areas such as trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, children's play therapy and family therapy.
Under Ms. Lieto's leadership, Tree by the Sea Counseling has grown significantly despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The business was named Best Counseling Business in Monroe for 2024 and was recognized as a finalist for Best Business for Counseling in Monroe in 2025. It was also awarded Best of Business ratings 2024 and Best of Business 2025. The name of the practice was developed with input from her son, reflecting her commitment to both family and professional excellence.
Prior to founding her own practice, Ms. Lieto spent four years as program coordinator for outpatient substance abuse treatment. In this role, she oversaw clinical programming and coordinated care for individuals seeking recovery support. Her responsibilities included supervising staff, developing treatment plans and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Ms. Lieto also worked for one year as a therapist at a methadone clinic, where she provided counseling services to individuals struggling with opioid addiction. This experience deepened her expertise in substance use counseling and reinforced her dedication to supporting those affected by addiction.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Lieto served as a supervisor at a severe behavioral treatment center for youth in Chicago, Illinois. There, she managed interventions for adolescents with complex behavioral needs and collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive care.
Ms. Lieto's professional journey began in 2001 with an associate of science degree with a focus on criminal justice and working at the Monroe County Youth Center, a juvenile detention center and lockdown facility. Initially pursuing a path in criminal justice, she soon realized her strengths lay in building rapport with youth, de-escalating situations and understanding the underlying causes of problematic behaviors, skills that naturally led her toward counseling and social work.
Education has been instrumental to Ms. Lieto's success. She earned a Master of Social Work from Wayne State University in Detroit in 2018. Earlier, she completed a Bachelor of Arts at Spring Arbor University in 2006, following an Associate of Science from Monroe Community College in 2002.
Ms. Lieto also holds several professional certifications that underscore her commitment to excellence. These include certification as an alcohol and drug counselor in the Michigan Certified Board of Addiction Professionals, as well as credentials as a certified trauma specialist. Together, these qualifications enable Ms. Lieto to provide specialized, comprehensive support across multiple areas of mental health and addiction care.
Reflecting on her career, Ms. Lieto attributes her achievements to recognizing the significant help people need across various areas of life. Her early experiences working with incarcerated teenagers shaped her understanding of trauma and resilience, a perspective further enriched by raising three children while advancing professionally. Balancing motherhood with academic pursuits, Ms. Lieto notably completed her master's degree while pregnant and returned to her internship just two weeks after giving birth.
Ms. Lieto is deeply engaged in community service beyond her clinical work. She has sponsored therapy dogs for local schools, supported youth sports by backing both a local soccer team and her high school's baseball team and participated in food drives for those facing hardship. Her dedication to charitable initiatives reflects a broader commitment to fostering well-being within her community.
Born in Monroe, Michigan, Ms. Lieto enjoys traveling in her personal time. Looking ahead, she plans to expand Tree by the Sea Counseling by opening additional offices to provide care to more individuals seeking support, continuing her commitment to making a meaningful impact in the fields of mental health and addiction.
