LEMONT, IL, January 30, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Anthony M. Apa Jr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Apa has established himself as a prominent leader in the transportation and logistics industry through nearly two decades of dedicated service. As the president of Mark-It Express Logistics since 2009, he has guided the company from its founding to its position as one of the largest independently owned intermodal trucking providers in the United States. His leadership has been defined by strategic growth, operational discipline and a strong commitment to people development.
In his role at Mark-It Express Logistics, Mr. Apa has overseen significant geographic and organizational expansion. The company operates across key Midwest terminals in Chicago, Kansas City, Detroit and Indianapolis, supporting a workforce of more than 250 employees and over 200 truck drivers. His responsibilities include setting long-term strategy, overseeing daily operations and directing corporate initiatives that drive sustainable growth.
A defining moment in Mr. Apa's career occurred in March 2008, when he chose to leave the security of his family's business during a severe economic recession. Acting against conventional wisdom, he founded Mark-It Express Logistics in March 2009 with the belief that building during adversity would create long-term opportunity. This decision proved successful as the company expanded through both organic growth and disciplined execution.
Central to that success has been Mr. Apa's approach to ownership and capital structure. He has completed eight buy-side and two sell-side mergers and acquisitions while maintaining full ownership by partnering with traditional senior lending institutions rather than private equity firms. This model is particularly uncommon in the trucking sector, where financing constraints often necessitate outside equity participation.
Before founding Mark-It Express Logistics, Mr. Apa held executive roles across several transportation organizations. From 2013 to 2015, he served as the vice president of Illinois Transport Inc., now ITI Intermodal Inc., where he contributed to executive decision-making and operational oversight during a period of industry transformation. Earlier, from 2010 to 2012, Mr. Apa served as the president of North Star National Repair.
Mr. Apa began building his operational foundation as operations manager at RoadLink USA, now RoadOne IntermodaLogistics Inc., from 2008 to 2009. There, he gained hands-on experience managing logistics operations and leading teams within a national transportation network. This early exposure provided valuable insight into large-scale intermodal operations.
Through years of direct industry involvement, Mr. Apa has earned recognition as an expert in final-mile intermodal trucking and container delivery from rail facilities. His professional affiliations reflect a strong commitment to advancing the industry. He is an active member of the Illinois Trucking Association and the Intermodal Association of Chicago, and has served on the boards of several leading organizations, including the Intermodal Association of North America, the Traffic Club of Chicago and the Transportation Intermediaries Association.
Education has played a foundational role in Mr. Apa's career development. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in integrated supply chain management from the Haworth College of Business at Western Michigan University in 2004. The program's blend of business and engineering principles aligned closely with his family's legacy in supply chain enterprises.
Mr. Apa's career path was further shaped by his upbringing as a third-generation transportation and logistics professional. After graduating, he joined his family's business before choosing to pursue his own entrepreneurial vision in 2008 due to differing perspectives on industry direction. That decision ultimately set the course for his independent leadership journey.
Complementing his professional endeavors, Mr. Apa remains actively engaged in civic and community initiatives, including support for Schaaf-Yang Syndrome initiatives, reflecting his broader commitment to social impact. His accomplishments have also been recognized through numerous honors, such as Crain's Fast 50, EEC Fast-Growing Companies and multiple Carrier of the Year awards.
Outside his career, Mr. Apa enjoys golfing, skiing and spending time with his family. Looking ahead, he aims to build a nationally scaled intermodal transportation platform that remains independently owned and operated. His long-term vision includes continued organic growth and strategic acquisitions while preserving independence until partnering with the right strategic or private equity stakeholder.
