As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Gagen has established a distinguished career in process filtration and manufacturing, with a particular focus on liquid-solid separation and pre-filtration processes.
Currently, Mr. Gagen is a Filtration Specialist at Unicat Catalyst Technologies, LLC, where he leads commercial strategy and technical development for the company's MagAFS magnetic filtration technology. He joined Unicat in October 2025, bringing 30 years of global experience in process filtration across refinery, chemical, and petrochemical applications. His expertise spans both liquid–solid and hot gas–solid separation, with a career dedicated to improving filtration performance, enhancing operational reliability, and supporting complex industrial operations worldwide.
Recognized for his deep technical insight and practical field experience, Mr. Gagen has become a trusted expert in advanced filtration technologies. His recent work with the Unicat team contributed to MagAFS being named the World Filtration Institute's 2025 Product of the Year – Filter Device.
Since 2018, he served as regional sales manager for EKATO Group, where he was responsible for overseeing regional sales and managing the development of a representative network. In this capacity, he concentrated on expanding EKATO Group's footprint, particularly by penetrating new markets and advancing the company's presence in the North American chemical and mining sector. His expertise in identifying customer needs and building strong community networks has been instrumental in his success, allowing him to foster environments where both clients and colleagues can thrive.
Prior to joining EKATO Group, Mr. Gagen was with Mott Corporation, based in Connecticut, from 2003 to 2019. He began his tenure in 2003 as regional sales manager for the East Coast of North America before transitioning into international sales and market development. During his time at Mott Corporation, he was responsible for developing markets across South America, Africa, the Middle East and India. He notably established the company's largest market partner and customer base in Italy, supplying large slurry systems to clients worldwide. His role required extensive collaboration with end users and frequent travel to countries where he did not speak the local language; however, he often communicated effectively in Italian when working with refinery partners. Mr. Gagen's ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and understand their motivations contributed significantly to his achievements in global market expansion.
From 1991 to 2003, Mr. Gagen held the position of product development manager at Madison Filter. In this role, he was recognized for his innovative contributions to medication development and was awarded numerous plaques for his work. A highlight of his early career was developing a patented product in the early 1990s, underscoring his technical acumen despite not holding an engineering degree. Throughout his professional journey, he has worked alongside some of the world's largest engineering and technical companies, such as BASF and Shell.
Mr. Gagen is an active member of several industry organizations, including the Alaska Miners Association and the Board of Directors of the American Filtration Society. His involvement in these groups reflects his commitment to advancing best practices within his field and supporting professional development among peers.
His academic background includes a bachelor's degree in political science and mass communication from SUNY Brockport, earned in 1986, following his graduation from Canastota High School in 1982. Although Mr. Gagen initially intended to pursue law school—having completed two degrees in four years—he was encouraged by a communications professor to consider marketing and sales due to his natural aptitude for connecting with others. Influenced by his father's career in sales and his own passion for engaging with people, Mr. Gagen entered the sales profession immediately after college. His success is attributed to personal drive, dedication to excellence and a deep commitment to family goals.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Gagen is civically engaged as a volunteer with Dysautonomia International, where he was recognized as Volunteer of the Month for his contributions. He has also received numerous awards for medication development during his tenure at Madison Filter.
Valuing family above all else, Mr. Gagen is dedicated to maintaining a high quality of life for those around him while balancing professional responsibilities with personal commitments. He enjoys running half-marathons, bike riding from Buffalo to Albany, vacationing with his wife and spending time with his family, including two daughters and one son.
Looking ahead, Mr. Gagen intends to continue developing business strategies, forming partnerships and mentoring younger professionals within his network. He remains committed to volunteering with Dysautonomia International and aspires to leave a legacy that promotes community well-being and supports future generations in achieving their goals.
