WEST PALM BEACH, FL, February 05, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Benjamin Alma, MPA, MA, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Alma currently serves as the civilian division manager for public safety in the State of Florida, a position he has held since 2019. In this capacity, he oversees the 911 center, code enforcement, police service aides, and all administrative staff. His responsibilities include teaching the history of policing, modern policing and an introduction to constitutional law to first- and second-year students. He has implemented new projects in the communications unit, such as introducing a new radio system and leading the transition of police service aides from parking officers to full police service aide roles. He has also developed and implemented a system to transition ticket issuance to a paperless process.
Since 2008, Mr. Alma has also served in a leadership role in public safety in the State of Florida. Throughout his tenure, he has been instrumental in mentoring and developing countless individuals within his units. He is particularly proud of guiding numerous team members to promotions, considering this his most significant professional achievement over his 39-year career in public safety.
In addition to his primary responsibilities, Mr. Alma is an adjunct professor at the police academy and a training officer, where he imparts practical knowledge and experience to aspiring law enforcement professionals. He is also an adjunct professor at Palm Beach State College, further extending his influence in shaping future leaders in criminal justice.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Alma served as a patrol officer, motorcycle officer and canine handler, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, in law enforcement, beginning in 1987. These roles provided him with comprehensive field experience and deepened his understanding of law enforcement operations.
Mr. Alma's academic background includes earning a Master of Public Administration from Columbia Southern University in 2019 and a Master of Arts in criminal justice in 2018. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts and sciences, general studies, and humanities at Albertus Magnus College in 2005. His foundational training began at the police academy in 1988. Additionally, he is a graduate of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association and was awarded an institutional fellowship at the Child Development School at Yale University.
Mr. Alma has obtained several certifications that have contributed to his expertise and leadership capabilities. These include executive leadership coursework at Cornell University from 2013 to 2014, a commercial driver license from the State of Florida, security manager certification, high liabilty police instructor, from the State of Florida, police officer standards and training council certification from Connecticut Police Academy, public-safety bomb technician certification from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Hazardous Devices School and code enforcement certification from the Florida Association of Code Enforcement.
In addition to induction into the National Leadership Society, Mr. Alma has been recognized with commendations for valor and a meritorious service award. He attributes his success to growing up underprivileged and in public housing, which motivated him to pursue a better life through education, a value instilled by his parents. His father enrolled him and his brother in the boys' club, where they participated in boxing, wrestling, taekwondo, and swimming while remaining active in their Baptist church community. The positive influence of their boxing instructors—affiliated with the Police Athletic League—helped shape Mr. Alma's perception of law enforcement officers as mentors rather than adversaries. Inspired by these experiences, he decided as early as sixth grade that he wanted to become a police officer. At age 20, he took the entrance exam, was accepted into the police academy, and began his lifelong career in law enforcement.
Beyond his professional commitments, Mr. Alma is civically engaged as a member and volunteer with Christ Fellowship Church. He has contributed to youth development as a coach for both Little League and T-ball teams.
Married for 30 years, Mr. Alma and his wife have a daughter and two grandsons. In his personal time, he enjoys working out and coaching his grandchildren's baseball teams. Looking ahead, he is committed to supporting his family's aspirations and hopes to help his oldest grandson achieve his dream of becoming a pilot by encouraging him to pursue his passion for flying.
