SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ, February 10, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael L. Mudalel, PE, LEED AP, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Mudalel has distinguished himself as a leader in geotechnical engineering and land surveying, demonstrating exceptional expertise in subsurface investigations as well as support of excavation designs and deep and shallow foundation systems. Since 2010, he has served as a managing partner at MFS Engineers & Surveyors, a civil engineering and consulting firm he co-founded alongside Jose Fuertes, PE and Paul Shim, PE.
In his role at MFS, Mr. Mudalel oversees a broad range of responsibilities including conducting subsurface investigations and drilling to assess soil profiles, determining suitable foundations and excavation requirements, informing design teams for structural and site planning, and overseeing field construction to ensure compliance with engineering designs. Renowned for his experience in large scale infrastructure projects, he also manages client interactions, accounting operations, legal and insurance matters, tax strategy and overall business operations.
Under Mr. Mudalel's and partner's leadership, MFS has grown from humble beginnings — launched with just $100 from each partner in a small New York City apartment — to a combined enterprise that generates approximately $30 million each year. This remarkable achievement stands as his proudest professional milestone, reflecting years of dedication and perseverance.
Prior to establishing MFS, Mr. Mudalel excelled as a staff engineer at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services in New York City for nearly three years. During this period, he gained valuable experience in geotechnical engineering, controlled construction inspections, preconstruction surveys and equipment monitoring. His work extended into diversified public sectors, including electric, gas, wind, solar and geothermal systems — which further broadened his technical acumen.
Hailing from an equally storied academic background, Mr. Mudalel pursued higher education after formative experiences that shaped his drive for excellence. Though he initially attended West Virginia University with aspirations of becoming an engineer and business owner, he found himself prioritizing leisure over academics. After returning home due to poor performance, his father challenged him to either pursue higher education or enter the workforce in a blue-collar role.
Inspired by his uncle's career as a civil engineer and determined to change his trajectory, Mr. Mudalel enrolled at Brookdale Community College and excelled academically. This success enabled him to transfer to Rutgers University–New Brunswick, where he earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and graduated summa cum laude in 2007.
Mr. Mudalel continued his studies at Columbia University, completing a Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering in 2010. Balancing rigorous coursework with the demands of building a business while studying, sitting, and passing the professional engineering licensing exam proved challenging but ultimately strengthened his skills as an engineer. The practical application of classroom knowledge to real-world projects during this time was pivotal in preparing him for entrepreneurship at an early age — a decision that set him apart from many peers who often wait decades before founding their own firms.
Throughout his engineering career, Mr. Mudalel has contributed to the professional community as a speaker for the American Society of Civil Engineers Metropolitan Section Geo-Institute in 2017 and led groundbreaking projects such as the Bergen-Linden Corridor horizontal directional drilling project, which set a world record in 2014. Recognized for his technical excellence and leadership within the industry, he was named one of New York's Top 20 Under 40 Young Professionals by Engineering News-Record in 2020 and received the Top 40 Under 40 Award from NJBiz in 2019.
Mr. Mudalel's commitment to civic engagement is evident through his service as an advisory board member for Investors Bank from 2017 to 2024. He has also made significant contributions to youth sports by revitalizing his town's wrestling program The Metuchen Grapplers alongside his wife Constance. Over the course of three years, they rebuilt the program from decline — securing nonprofit status and increasing membership from 20 to 60 wrestlers — and ensured its long-term sustainability by passing leadership on to another qualified volunteer coach/President.
Valuing his family above all else, Mr. Mudalel cherishes spending time with his wife, Constance, and their three children, Mike Jr., Charlotte and Lillian, and enjoys skiing, water sports, playing golf and traveling the world together. Collecting art and real estate development is another passion that complements his professional pursuits.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Mudalel is dedicated to expanding the impact of MFS Engineers & Surveyors while providing excellent services within the industry and inspiring future generations to pursue their ambitions with determination and focus — a core belief that has guided him throughout his life. He remains equally committed to giving back to his community through philanthropy, aiming to help others achieve their potential just as he strives to do for his family.
