As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Smagina has built a highly respected career in medicine, guided by a sincere devotion to patient care and a lifelong commitment to family medicine. She comes from a family of physicians—both of her parents and her aunt were doctors—a background that shaped her values early on and instilled a deep respect for the responsibility and art of healing. Since 2024, she has served as a physician with UMass Memorial Medical Group at Douglas Primary Care, where she is known for her attentive, thoughtful, and compassionate approach. She dedicates significant time to her patients, believing that listening carefully and understanding the whole person are essential to quality care.

Before joining UMass Memorial, Dr. Smagina devoted more than fourteen years to Milford Regional Physician Group, where she provided comprehensive primary care from 2009 to 2023 and became a deeply trusted, long-standing presence within the community. Earlier in her career, she practiced at Southcoast Primary Care from 2007 to 2008, where she refined her skills after she completed her residency training.

Dr. Smagina's medical journey is grounded in a strong foundation in women's health and research. From 1991 to 1996, she specialized in obstetrics and gynecology at the St. Petersburg Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, gaining extensive experience in reproductive medicine. While still a medical student, she began her professional path as a research assistant in the Department of Biochemistry at St. Petersburg Pavlov State Medical University from 1987 to 1991, developing a lasting appreciation for scientific inquiry and academic collaboration.

Her academic background is extensive and international in scope. Dr. Smagina completed her family medicine residency at Reading Hospital and Medical Center (now Tower Health) in 2007, following advanced training in obstetrics and gynecology and a research fellowship in reproductive endocrinology in St. Petersburg. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from St. Petersburg Pavlov State Medical University in 1991.

Throughout her career, Dr. Smagina has remained actively involved in professional organizations. She has been a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians since 2004 and the Massachusetts Medical Society since 2011. Her earlier affiliations include professional societies in endocrinology and obstetrics and gynecology, as well as student scientific organizations.

Dr. Smagina holds a full medical license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. She has also maintained multiple professional certifications reflecting her commitment to excellence.

Deeply committed to service, Dr. Smagina has volunteered in free clinics, migrant health programs, school-based physicals, and community cancer screening initiatives. She has also served internationally as a coordinator and interpreter for International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) in St. Petersburg.

Her contributions have been recognized through multiple Massachusetts Top Doctor and Readers' Choice awards. She attributes her success to dedication, attention to detail, and an unwavering commitment to her patients-values rooted in her upbringing in a family where medicine was both a calling and a way of life.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Smagina enjoys time with her family and friends, gardening, international travel, and cooking, finding balance and inspiration in these pursuits.

Looking to the future, she is hopeful about the evolving role of artificial intelligence in medicine and its potential to further support physicians and enhance patient care—an outlook that reflects her continued openness to innovation in the service of healing.
