Eight of these years were spent studying Russia and Russian, and she managed the largest Russian-language military, technical and intelligence data base/library in the U.S. She began to travel to the Soviet Union and then became one of the very few Americans to move to the USSR.

She lived under Communism in the Soviet Union, Russia, Ukraine, and Central Asia long enough to become bi-cultural, embracing Russian identity and culture. This edition includes the Russian dictator (Putin) behind a brutal war, and his foe, the Ukrainian President (Zelensky) whose leadership has made him a rare heroic figure in our divisive time. . . The description of President Zelensky was written by U.S. President Joe Biden. The description of President Putin was written by Alexei Navalny. For those of you who do not know Navalny, he was the leader of the Russian opposition, was poisoned by Putin but survived in a German hospital, then returned to Russia only to be arrested. He was serving nine years in a Russian maximum-security penal colony until his death.

Navalny states: "Perhaps Vladimir Putin's true mission is to teach lessons. To everyone – from world leaders and pundits to ordinary people. He has been especially good at this in 2022. He reminded us once again that a path that begins with "just a little election rigging" always ends with a dictatorship.

When I read this statement, all I could think of was President Trump's call (which was taped) to Brad Raffensperger (R), the Secretary of State for Georgia pressuring him to "just find about 11,780 votes" to overturn the 2020 presidential election. This was first published by The Washington Post and then The New York Times.

Navalny goes on to say: "World leaders have hypocritically talked for years about a "pragmatic" approach and the benefits of international trade. In so doing, they enabled themselves to benefit from Russian oil and gas while Putin's grip on (international) power grew stronger. Between sanctions and military and economic aid, this war (with Ukraine) will cost hundreds of times more than those lucrative oil and gas contracts, the signing of which used to be celebrated with champagne.

Putin also has reminded us all of the "duck test": if something looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck – or in this case, a dictator. The very same logic should be applied in this case: if someone destroys the independent media, organizes political assassinations, and sticks to his imperial delusions, then he is a madman capable of causing a bloodbath in the center of Europe in the 21st century. . . However, the answer to the main question he poses – how to stop an evil madman with an army, nuclear weapons, and membership in the U.N. Security Council – is yet to be answered.

The same could be said of Mr. Trump. Does Donald Trump remind you of the "duck test?" He is well on his way to destroy independent media in our country. He organizes politically motivated lawsuits against all who oppose him and a few have mysteriously died, and he sticks with his "imperial delusions." Perhaps most importantly, he is a madman capable of causing a bloodbath in the middle of America and elsewhere. Every one of us has witnessed this violence. Alex Pretti and Renee Good were his victims, along with 33 others who have died in his "containment camps.". His solidary and illegal military decisions have killed over 100 individuals in Venezuela and Iran. And perhaps most importantly, his closure of USAID has resulted in a genocide in Africa with an estimated death toll by 2040 of over 15 million people. (The Lancet)

This death toll far exceeds Putin's number of deaths in Ukraine, and it exceeds Hitler's number of Jews killed in Europe by more than twice the number. This is the deliberate action of a bigoted man who discriminates against Black and Brown-skinned people. This event stands as an atrocity of great historical proportions, which will burden Americans for generations - comparable to Germany's history of Hitler.

This includes over 30 million children under five and major reductions in mortality from HIV/AIDS (25.5 million deaths averted), malaria (8 million), tropical diseases and starvation."
