BURBANK, CA, March 13, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Syrus Avanesyan has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Avanesyan has established a distinguished career in construction inspection and structural engineering, marked by more than 25 years of dedicated service. Since 2018, he has served as a DSA construction project inspector with the LAUSD Inspection Department, where he is responsible for maintaining comprehensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. His expertise extends to applying architectural and structural principles, inspecting projects from inception through completion and reviewing Division of the State Architect-approved plans. He is also tasked with evaluating special plans requiring restricted code compliance and ensuring that all construction meets rigorous standards for children's safety.
From 2015 to 2018, Mr. Avanesyan contributed as a project engineer at APSI Construction Management, Inc., where he oversaw project coordination and implementation, drawing on his extensive background in both engineering and inspection. From 2013 to 2015, he held the role of DSA project inspector and inspector of record at CTE, Inc., where he ensured compliance with state regulations for educational facility construction.
Between 2009 and 2013, Mr. Avanesyan worked as a DSA project inspector and the inspector of record at TYR, Inc., further honing his skills in regulatory compliance and quality assurance for public-sector projects. His earlier experience includes serving as a field engineer and state construction structural inspector with Ka2d Construction Management Inc. and DMJM H&N from 2002 to 2008, where he played a pivotal role in overseeing large-scale infrastructure projects.
From 1996 to 2002, Mr. Avanesyan managed operations as a construction manager at Graphland, Inc., leading teams through complex building assignments. In the preceding year, he was assistant construction manager and general superintendent at Terracom Development, Inc., where he coordinated site activities and supervised project execution. His tenure from 1987 to 1995 as assistant construction manager and general superintendent at Caleena Construction Corp. provided him with foundational leadership experience in the industry.
Mr. Avanesyan began his professional journey in the United States as a structural designer with Kellogg Brown and Root Pty Ltd (now KBR Inc.) from 1980 to 1987. In this capacity, he contributed to nuclear power plant design and refinery projects across Canada, the United States, and Kuwait. Before immigrating to the United States, he served as a construction manager and senior structural engineer at C & I Engineering & Construction from 1973 to 1979.
Throughout his career, Mr. Avanesyan has maintained active membership in several industry organizations, including the American Construction Inspectors Association (as an ACIA-certified member), the International Code Council, the Masonry Institute of America and the Division of the State Architect.
His academic achievements have been instrumental in shaping his professional trajectory. Mr. Avanesyan earned a master's degree in structural engineering from California State University, Los Angeles, in 1984. He previously completed both a master's and a bachelor's degree in structural engineering at the Institute of Polytechnic (now the National Polytechnic University of Armenia) in Yerevan, Armenia, graduating with his master's in 1973.
In addition to his formal education, Mr. Avanesyan holds numerous certifications that underscore his technical proficiency: school inspector certificate from the American Construction Inspectors Association (2006), Division of the State Architect Class II project inspector (2006), ACI concrete field testing technician grade I from the American Construction Inspectors Association (2004), masonry inspector from the Masonry Institute of America (2007), DSA project inspector exam from the Division of the State Architect (2006), ICC building inspector UBC from the International Code Council (2004) and California general contractor license from the Contractors State License Board (1986). His status as an ACIA-certified member further reflects his commitment to professional excellence.
Mr. Avanesyan's approach is defined by passion, honesty and transparency; he is known for never taking shortcuts and always striving for accuracy in his work. He credits these qualities—alongside his willingness to seek guidance when needed—as central to his enduring success.
His journey into this profession began after immigrating to the United States in November of 1979—a long-held aspiration motivated by a desire for greater opportunity than was available in Armenia due to its political climate. Bringing with him a robust background in structural engineering acquired through studies in Iran at the Iranian-American Association—where he achieved advanced English proficiency—and subsequent degrees in Armenia, Mr. Avanesyan quickly adapted to United States industry standards after being hired by Kellogg Brown and Root Pty Ltd just two weeks after applying for a position.
He initially contributed to nuclear power plant projects before transitioning to international refinery assignments. Recognizing differences between international practices and those prevalent in the United States construction—particularly regarding wood and steel—he pursued additional qualifications through International Code Council examinations while gaining hands-on experience on domestic job sites over several years.
Mr. Avanesyan's expertise led him to serve as a structural construction inspector for the California Department of Corrections and State Prisons on multiple projects, including several state prisons. After passing the Division of the State Architect examination in 2006, he joined Los Angeles Unified School District projects across Ventura and Los Angeles counties, was then recruited for another major prison project that concluded in 2018, and returned to the LAUSD Inspection Department, where he continues his work.
His professional reputation is further supported by recognition, including the Diamond Certificate for five years of service at KBR Inc., where he was named one of their best workers.
Beyond his technical roles, Mr. Avanesyan supports civic organizations, including American Disabled Militaries and the Wounded Warrior Project.
Born in Tehran, Mr. Avanesyan has built a life rooted in family values alongside Ofik Avanesyan; together they have raised two children: Hilda Avanessian, who works in medicine, and Allen Avanesyan, who is pursuing business endeavors. His brother is also listed among the Marquis Who's Who in America honorees.
Outside of work, Mr. Avanesyan enjoys playing chess and basketball, as well as watching his favorite basketball and football teams on TV. He remains committed to advancing ongoing projects such as a modernization initiative at Kennedy High School—a source of particular pride—and an upcoming complex assignment involving both high school and middle school components that will draw upon his extensive expertise. Additionally, he mentors inspectors entering the field; one recent mentee achieved certification through the Division of the State Architect under his guidance.
Mr. Avanesyan continues to demonstrate unwavering dedication to his profession while contributing meaningfully to both industry standards and community well-being through mentorship and civic engagement.
