CHARLESTON, WV, March 18, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mike Carte has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Carte has established a distinguished career as a chemistry teacher over the past 29 years, during which he has taught International Baccalaureate Chemistry, Advanced Placement Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, and Consumer Chemistry.

During his career, Mr. Carte has performed various chemistry-related roles outside of the classroom. In 2021-2022, he served as the Lead Reviewer for Chemistry on the Instructional Materials Review Committee for the West Virginia Department of Education where he evaluated chemistry textbooks, lab manuals, and digital resources. Additionally, Mr. Carte was a member of the initial Item-Writing Cadre for Chemistry for the West Virginia Department of Education in 2010, where he wrote questions for end-of-year summative assessments.

Mr. Carte served an Adjunct Professor at the University of Charleston from 2017-2020 where he taught general chemistry and general chemistry lab during summer sessions. Moreover, in 2011 he served as a part-time general chemistry MCAT instructor for The Princeton Review. During 2008-2010, Mr. Carte collaborated with municipal leaders, first responders, and chemical industry officials as a member of the Riverside Area Community Advisory Panel, which focused on chemical safety in eastern Kanawha County.

Mr. Carte was awarded Kanawha County Teacher of the Year in 2010. In 2025, he was named Chemistry Teacher of the Year by the Kanawha Valley Section of the American Chemical Society. The University of Chicago honored Mr. Carte in 2020 with its Outstanding Educator Award. He has also been named an Outstanding Educator multiple times by the West Virginia Governor's Honors Academy.

From 2013-2015, Mr. Carte took a two-year break from classroom teaching, and served as a STEM Coordinator for Regional Educational Service Agency 3. During that time, Mr. Carte worked to promote chemistry at the middle-school level by facilitating teacher trainings conducted by developers of the American Chemical Society's Middle School Chemistry Program. He also introduced local college professors and chemical industry leaders to the Chemical Education Foundation's You Be the Chemist Challenge, which soon became an annual competition among middle schools within RESA 3.

Mr. Carte obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from West Virginia State University in 1994, and his Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Marshall University in 1996. Aside from his classroom duties, Mr. Carte serves as Chair of the Science Department at George Washington High School, as well as the Science Bowl Coach, and faculty sponsor of the Scientific Research Club. He is a member of the American Chemical Society as well as the American Association of Chemistry Teachers.
