BOTHELL, WA, March 19, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Following the impactful December 2025 floods that surged through Washington state rivers, three 7th-grade students—Aadya, Atharv, and Karthi—have developed "FloodChasers," a technical application designed to improve community flood safety. The project aims to reduce road fatalities, as research indicates more individuals perish in submerged vehicles than in homes during major flood events.

The team engineered a full-stack FastAPI service that transforms free weather data into life-saving guidance. The "FloodChasers" app features a proprietary 0-100 risk-scoring engine that blends live weather forecasts, ground saturation metrics, and river discharge data. Additionally, the system is designed for live-feed camera integration to analyze immediate surroundings for rising water levels in real-time soon.

To ensure the app meets professional standards, the students proactively reached out to industry leaders and were met with an enthusiastic reception. On March 13, 2026, the trio was warmly welcomed by scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The experts were impressed by the team's technical ambition, providing invaluable guidance to help refine their water prediction models and risk-scoring logic.

The community-focused mission continued on March 16, 2026, when the team was invited to tour Snohomish County Emergency Management. Department officials were inspired by the students' dedication to local safety, offering a behind-the-scenes look at professional disaster-response operations. This mentorship provided the students with critical insights into improving emergency communication and evacuation logistics.

The students are currently integrating this expert feedback into the https://floodchasers.world app in preparation for the upcoming Washington State Science and Engineering Fair (WSSEF) exhibition on March 27, 2026. Their work demonstrates how youth-led innovation and professional mentorship can combine to enhance community resilience and public safety.

About FloodChasers:
FloodChasers is a student-led engineering initiative focused on developing low-cost, AI-driven solutions for flood monitoring and emergency evacuation guidance. By integrating real-time weather data with predictive modeling, the project seeks to provide communities with accessible tools for disaster preparedness.
