Ms. Class currently serves as an ancillary work stream lead for the Epic Go-Live project at UAB Health System, a role she began in 2025. The Epic implementation project under Ms. Class's leadership spans nine hospitals, two freestanding emergency departments, a freestanding surgery center and more than 500 clinics. This initiative includes five Ascension hospitals acquired by the UAB Health System, as well as UAB and Highlands Hospital, UAB Medical West and UAB Hospital-Callahan Eye. The project is structured around two major go-live waves, reflecting Ms. Class's expertise in project management and her commitment to operational excellence.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Class was the Vice President of Operations for the UAB/Highlands Hospitals with oversight for Perioperative and Anesthesia Services, the Heart and Vascular Center, Instrument Reprocessing Services, the Trauma/Burn Program and Inpatient Wound Services from 2022 to 2025. In this executive role, she drove growth in surgical volumes and played a pivotal role in expanding programs, including surgical robotics, and transplant. She was instrumental in addressing critical staffing shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic by hiring specialized educators for the PACU areas and implementing an intensive six- to nine-month training program to prepare nurses for critical care nursing roles. Ms. Class's collaboration with local educational institutions raised awareness about perioperative services and provided students with hands-on experience, while her advocacy for increased financial support for technical programs led to the successful graduation of the first cohort from the Surgical Technologists program at local community colleges. UAB Hospital has recently been designated as the fifth largest public hospital in the US.
Between 2015 and 2022, Ms. Class served as the Associate Vice President of Perioperative Services for the UAB/Highlands Hospital. During this period, she continued to advance technology adoption within the hospital system. Ms. Class also fostered partnerships with local universities and community colleges to provide hands-on training opportunities for students interested in careers in nursing, surgical technology and sterile processing.
Ms. Class's earlier tenure included her role as a Director of Surgical Services at Callahan Eye Hospital in Birmingham from 2013 to 2015. She previously served as the Administrative Director of St. Vincent's Hospital's outpatient surgery center between 2010 and 2013. Among other roles, Ms. Class spent 2008 to 2010 as the Director of Clinical Operations and Education at Integrated Medical Systems in Birmingham. This role involved outsourcing of Sterile Processing Departments and use of Lean Six Sigma processes to improve instrument reprocessing efficiencies. She also worked as a managing consultant at Navigant Consulting Inc. in Chicago from 2007 to 2008, providing strategic guidance on efficient patient throughput as well as streamlined process for patient surgical scheduling and improved OR turnaround times.
In 2007, Ms. Class served as the Administrator at the Birmingham Surgery Center after holding Director roles at Trinity Medical Center between 1998 and 2007 and at Carraway Methodist Medical Center from 1995 to 1998, both in Birmingham. At Cullman Regional Medical Center in Cullman from 1994 to 1995, she directed Surgical Services as well as collaboration with other leadership to move to a new hospital location and incorporate a joint venture surgery center into the new hospital setting. She also excelled at The Kirklin Clinic at UAB as the Manager of Surgical Services between 1992 and 1994, which was the first outpatient surgery center that had been constructed at UAB. Ms. Class's leadership journey began as a Unit Director of One-Day Surgery at Montclair Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham from 1988 to 1992. Her first frontline leadership position dates back to 1980.
Ms. Class holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Alabama since 1980 and a Master's Degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Phoenix since 2007. She also obtained certification in perioperative nursing in 1990 and her Lean Six Sigma Green Belt in 1995. Ms. Class's academic achievements have provided a strong foundation for her leadership roles across multiple health care settings.
Ms. Class is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses, the Alabama Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association. She has also served on various committees over the years to improve patient care and cost reduction efforts within the Perioperative and Cardiology services.
Beyond her professional commitments, Ms. Class is deeply engaged with civic organizations, such as The Link, and contributes to efforts to support orphans and build schools and orphanages in Uganda through Daystar Church and the One30 organization. Her community involvement extends to teaching parenting classes and facilitating classes on fostering or adoption for prospective parents. Ms. Class previously volunteered with Jessie's Place and the Alabama Pre/Post Adoption Connection. Ms Class has a heart of giving back and supporting those in need in her community and state and has adopted six children as well as having two birth children.
Throughout her career, Ms. Class has distinguished herself through her commitment to continuous improvement, quality patient care and ethical decision-making. She is recognized for her ability to navigate complex projects by fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders and connecting clinical priorities with broader organizational goals. Ms. Class's expertise encompasses perioperative services, certified registered nurse anesthetist services, heart and vascular care, trauma burn programs and large-scale operations management.
A hallmark of Ms. Class's career has been her proactive engagement with technological advancements, most notably artificial intelligence applications within health care documentation through Epic software implementation, and her dedication to mentoring future leaders within her organization. She has worked across her many positions and organizations to develop her leadership by equipping team members with essential skills for success.
Ms. Class's contributions have been recognized through numerous honors, including the Excellence in Leadership Award from Callahan Eye Hospital in 2014 and the Excellence in Nursing Leadership Award from UAB Hospital in 2020. She attributes much of her success to maintaining close connections with frontline leaders and staff. Although Ms. Class is nearing retirement, she intends to remain active through consultancy mentorship opportunities and expanded volunteer work locally and internationally, continuing her lifelong commitment to service, leadership development and making a difference within communities she serves. She is also excited about the ability to spend more times with her grown children and her four grandchildren.
