Prior to joining Mast Labs, Mr. McDermond served as the Associate Director of Laboratory Services at the University of Maryland Faculty Physicians Incorporated from 2020 to 2024. In this role, he contributed significantly to statewide COVID-19 testing initiatives, collaborating with government agencies and nursing homes during the pandemic. His responsibilities included supporting laboratory operations and ensuring efficient delivery of services across multiple sites.

From 2018 to 2020, Mr. McDermond was Director of Supply Chain Management at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson. He managed supply chain operations for all hospital departments, including operating rooms and nursing floors, serving as the primary point of contact for surgical and disposable supplies. His leadership was instrumental in maintaining operational continuity during challenging periods.

Mr. McDermond's earlier career was shaped by more than a decade at Under Armour, where he held several key positions that contributed to his expertise in logistics and operations management. As senior project manager for the SAP-FMS project from 2016 to 2018, he oversaw major warehouse projects, including the Rialto facility in California, as well as smaller initiatives in Canada and around Baltimore. Between 2015 and 2016, he served as senior project manager for global supply chain operations, focusing on distribution logistics.

Mr. McDermond's academic background includes a Master of Science in Acquisition and Supply Chain Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus in 2023, following a Bachelor of Arts in journalism with a minor in history from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He began his undergraduate studies with pre-journalism coursework at the University of Georgia. Notably, he was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll at both institutions.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. McDermond is civically engaged as a board member of The Arc Baltimore and supports fundraising efforts, such as the Polar Bear Plunge, benefiting Special Olympics Maryland.
