He also teaches drone piloting and conducts drone photography, demonstrating expertise in high-dynamic-range ground photography and special-event photography. From 2022 to 2026, Mr. McCabe served as an assistant fire and life safety director at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. In this role, he contributed to campus safety initiatives and emergency preparedness programs, drawing on decades of experience in fire services administration. Concurrently, Mr. McCabe is the owner and producer of Hilltop Video Services in Fairfield between 2020 and 2026, where he managed video production projects, leveraging his skills in visual storytelling and technical production.
Mr. McCabe dedicated 10 years to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). From 2011 to 2021, he held dual roles as an education program specialist with the U.S. Fire Administration and National Fire Academy, as well as emergency services group supervisor at the Department of Homeland Security's National Response Coordination Center (NRCC) in the Washington, D.C.-Baltimore area. As a professional development coordinator on a national level, Mr. McCabe responded to emergencies as the emergency services group coordinator at the NRCC. He managed operations addressing national emergency issues related to fire and rescue, search and rescue, hazardous materials and public safety.
For twenty-five years before these roles, Mr. McCabe served as a firefighter, paramedic, and station officer for the City of Thornton in Colorado. His tenure included incident command responsibilities during critical emergencies, a role he regards as one of his proudest accomplishments. Mr. McCabe's service extends to the military, having honorably served as an emergency action controller with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam conflict in Southeast Asia.
Following his retirement from active firefighting duties, he served as the coordinator for fire science technology, homeland security and emergency management at Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Northeastern Junior College in Sterling Colorado.
Mr. McCabe's academic credentials are extensive. He earned an Associate of Science in fire science technology from the Community College of Denver, Red Rocks Campus, a Bachelor of Arts in communications with a multi-major from Metropolitan State University of Denver, and a Bachelor of Science in fire services administration from Western Oregon University. Mr. McCabe's educational foundation has been instrumental throughout his career.
In addition to his formal education, Mr. McCabe pursued advanced credentials on LinkedIn in communication with confidence, strategic thinking and other areas. He also received an executive fire officer program master's-level research certificate from the National Fire Academy and a master's certification in instructional design and technology from the University of Maryland Global Campus.
His civic involvement includes membership with the Civil Air Patrol and a lifetime membership in the National Vietnam Veterans Association. Additionally, he provides volunteer service with the Fairfield Regional Emergency Management Association.
Among Mr. McCabe's most notable achievements was his involvement during his tenure with FEMA in the development and coordination of the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education program with the U.S. Fire Administration. This initiative fostered collaboration among colleges, universities and state training officials nationwide. By the time of Mr. McCabel's departure, over 125 institutions of higher learning and all 50 state fire training coordinators or state fire marshals had participated.
In recognition of his contributions to public safety education, Mr. McCabe received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2014. He credits his success to curiosity and determination, qualities that have driven him to seek out opportunities for improvement within every organization he has served. As he looks toward the future, Mr. McCabe is dedicated to establishing Archangel Aerial Productions as a legacy for his grandson while continuing to promote growth within the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education program that he initiated with the U.S. Fire Administration.
