STALLINGS, NC, April 08, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David E. Smith has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Smith has established a distinguished career spanning more than four decades in the electrical and elevator industries, demonstrating exceptional expertise and leadership. Since 2004, he has served as elevator contract supervisor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he oversees critical aspects of elevator operations, maintenance contracts and compliance for the campus. In this capacity, Mr. Smith has been instrumental in ensuring the safety, reliability and efficiency of vertical transportation systems across the university's facilities. His responsibilities have included managing vendor relationships, supervising inspections and coordinating with various departments to uphold rigorous standards. In addition to managing the elevator contract he has held various additional roles from electrical shop supervisor to supervisor over a couple of zone maintenance shops.

Before joining the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Mr. Smith dedicated 20 years to working alongside his father in their family-owned electrical contracting business in Charlotte. This formative period began after he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1984, when he accepted his father's invitation to join the business. During these two decades, Mr. Smith honed his technical skills and developed a deep understanding of electrical systems, fire alarms, generators and elevators. His commitment to professional growth led him to obtain an electrical contractor's license in North Carolina in 1993. That same year, he also achieved certification as a level three electrical inspector through the State of North Carolina, further solidifying his reputation as an expert in the electrical field.

The sale of his father's business at the end of 2003 marked a pivotal transition in Mr. Smith's career, prompting him to pursue new opportunities at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Initially appointed as electrical shop supervisor for the entire campus, he managed a broad portfolio that included fire alarms, generators and elevators before organizational restructuring led him to manage a couple of zone maintenance shops, then focus exclusively on elevator contract supervision.

Throughout his career, Mr. Smith has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to professional development and industry engagement. He is a long-standing member of the Association of Physical Plant Administrators, an organization dedicated to supporting facilities managers in educational institutions across the United States and Canada. In 2013, he earned the Certified Educational Facility Professional credential after completing comprehensive training, a milestone he considers one of his most significant accomplishments. His involvement with the association extended beyond membership; he served on its board for approximately 10 years and served as president of the Southeast region from 2017 to 2018. Mr. Smith remained an active member until 2024, contributing to regional initiatives and supporting colleagues throughout Louisiana, Florida, Puerto Rico and neighboring states. Mr. Smith is currently serving on the board of Elevator U, which focuses on assisting those that work with elevators and elevator contractors know more about elevators.

Mr. Smith attributes much of his success to his father's guidance and influence. Working closely with him provided invaluable lessons on perseverance, ambition and ethical conduct, qualities that have shaped Mr. Smith's approach to leadership and collaboration throughout his career.

Born in Charlotte, Mr. Smith values family above all else and enjoys spending time with his two sons, two daughter in laws and granddaughter. Looking ahead, he is committed to sharing his knowledge with others in his field, aiming to support those who follow in his footsteps by offering mentorship and guidance as they advance their own careers.

Mr. Smith's enduring dedication to excellence in electrical and elevator systems management has left a lasting impact on both his profession and community, earning him recognition among peers and inclusion in Marquis Who's Who for his outstanding achievements and service.
