PERRYSBURG, OH, April 10, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Philip Hughes has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Hughes has established a distinguished career in mental health counseling, marked by progressive leadership roles and a commitment to serving diverse populations. Most recently, he has been engaged as the owner of PDougie's Delights since 2025, where he applies his passion for baking and entrepreneurship. Concurrently, since 2022, he has served as a licensed professional clinical counselor-supervisor at Philosophy Counseling & Consulting, LLC. In this capacity, Mr. Hughes is responsible for researching, networking, meeting with clients and managing all aspects of the business. His clinical focus centers on food addiction, particularly supporting individuals undergoing bariatric surgery both before and after their procedures.
Before his current endeavors, Mr. Hughes held several key positions at Bowling Green State University. He was appointed assistant director of counseling services from 2025 to 2026, during which he focused on systems management and optimizing client flow at the university's counseling center. From 2023 to 2025, he served as assistant director of outreach, conducting therapy sessions and delivering presentations on a range of mental health topics. His efforts in this role were recognized with the Harriet Copher Haynes Mentoring Award in 2024. Earlier, Mr. Hughes was promoted to full-time staff clinician in May 2019, after initially joining the university as an intern and later as a part-time counselor in 2018. He continued as a licensed clinical professional counselor until 2023, providing direct support to students and contributing to campus wellness initiatives.
Mr. Hughes's early professional experience includes work in community mental health settings. He began his career as a therapist in the partial hospitalization program at Unison Behavioral Health from 2013 to 2014, followed by a role as a therapist for the assertive community treatment team at Family Services of Northwest Ohio from 2014 to 2015. In these positions, he focused on supporting children and families until he discovered his passion for working with college students and bariatric patients.
Before entering the counseling field full-time, Mr. Hughes developed valuable leadership skills during his tenure with Starbucks Coffee Company from 2006 to 2018. He advanced from shift supervisor to assistant store manager and ultimately store manager, earning recognition such as the Manager of the Quarter Award.
Throughout his career, Mr. Hughes has been actively involved in professional organizations that advance counseling practice and advocacy. He has been a member of the Northwest Ohio Counseling Association since 2013 and has held leadership roles, including serving as past president of the Ohio College Counseling Association and as secretary of the Ohio Association for Spiritual, Ethical and Religious Values in Counseling (OASERVIC). Additionally, he served as treasurer for SAIGE of Ohio under the Ohio Counseling Association, contributed to NASPA conference planning committees, and served as a board member for AUCCCO along with subcommittees of the organization. His involvement extends to research and assessment teams and diversity committees within these organizations.
Among his most significant achievements is being one of only four individuals nationally selected by the Association of University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD) for an award that enabled him to present at their conference in Phoenix. This honor stands out as a career highlight due to its competitive nature and collaborative opportunities with fellow awardees.
Mr. Hughes's academic foundation includes a Master of Arts in mental health counseling from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, earned in 2013, and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Cincinnati, completed in 2009. These educational experiences provided him with critical theoretical knowledge and practical skills that have underpinned his success across clinical practice, outreach programming and organizational leadership.
His dedication has been recognized through multiple honors, such as being nominated for Student Employee Supervisor at Bowling Green State University in 2025 and receiving the Harriett Copher Haynes Leadership Mentoring Award from the Association of University and College Counseling Center Directors in 2024.
Mr. Hughes credits much of his success to self-reflection and the unwavering support of those around him. He acknowledges the influence of his father during challenging times, along with honest guidance from his husband, Bob, and his mother. The encouragement from friends has also played an essential role throughout his journey into private practice and during moments of recognition at Bowling Green State University.
Born in Findlay, Mr. Hughes values time spent with his family—his husband, Bob, and their son, Brogan — who are central figures in his life. Outside of work, he enjoys baking, cooking, traveling, watching scary movies, learning new things and attending musical theater performances.
Looking ahead, Mr. Hughes aims to expand his private practice further while contributing meaningfully to initiatives that are important to him. He also hopes to travel more extensively with his family—including a memorable trip to Disney with his son—and remains committed to pursuing activities that bring fulfillment while letting go of pursuits that do not align with his personal happiness or sense of purpose.
