LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL, April 14, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Chris Kalapodis, RN, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Kalapodis has established a distinguished career in nursing, marked by a commitment to patient education and engagement. Since 2025, he has served as a transitional nurse navigator at Good Shepherd Hospital, part of Advocate Health Care. In this capacity, he is instrumental in reducing readmissions among high-risk patients by coordinating care, providing clear bedside education to patients and families and encouraging active participation in their health management.
In addition to these responsibilities, Mr. Kalapodis conducts follow-up after discharge for up to one month, arranging additional appointments or care as needed and maintaining communication with care providers to ensure patients understand their diagnoses and treatment plans. His efforts are particularly focused on index patients with conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia and sepsis, aiming to reduce 30-day readmission rates through the transitional nurse navigator program.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Kalapodis worked as a case manager at Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin from 2023 to 2025. There, he recognized the critical importance of helping patients comprehend their care pathways, diagnoses and recovery options — whether returning home with health services, transitioning to skilled nursing facilities or entering inpatient rehabilitation. He consistently prioritized patient engagement, striving to ensure individuals were informed participants in their own care rather than passive recipients.
From 2022 to 2023, Mr. Kalapodis was an intensive care nurse with MedPro Healthcare Staffing. In this agency role, he provided critical care services across various settings, further honing his expertise in acute patient management. His experience also includes serving as an admission nurse at Suncrest Hospice in Northbrook between 2021 and 2022. Although his tenure in hospice care was brief, Mr. Kalapodis developed a deep respect for the field and its practitioners.
Between 2016 and 2021, Mr. Kalapodis served as a clinical nurse consultant at Northwest Community Healthcare. In this multifaceted role, he managed rapid response and code teams during medical emergencies or cardiac arrests until the intensive care unit physician assumed responsibility or collaborated with him directly. Additionally, he served as a stroke navigator, working closely with neurologists and tele-neurologists to assess potential stroke cases, determine treatment windows and coordinate interventions with pharmacists or neurosurgical teams, even during off-hours.
Mr. Kalapodis began his nursing career at Alden Estates of Barrington in 2015. During his time at this nursing home, he observed that many patients lacked understanding of their rehabilitation goals or reasons for admission, a realization that shaped his enduring focus on patient education throughout his subsequent roles.
Throughout his career, Mr. Kalapodis has been dedicated to enhancing patient understanding and engagement. One of his most rewarding achievements involved assisting a patient who had been hospitalized 36 times in eighteen months due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. By taking the time to explain her condition and emphasizing medication compliance and pulmonary rehabilitation, he helped her regain mobility and significantly improve her quality of life through coordinated care with pulmonologists and other specialists.
In addition to his professional roles, Mr. Kalapodis is an active member of several industry organizations. These include the American Nurses Association and the American Heart Association, Inc., reflecting his commitment to ongoing professional development and industry standards.
Higher education provided a strong foundation for Mr. Kalapodis' clinical expertise and leadership roles within health care settings. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in registered nursing from Aurora University in 2015 and an Associate of Arts from Elgin Community College in 2013.
Mr. Kalapodis also holds multiple professional certifications, including the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale certification from the American Heart Association Inc., a registered professional nurse credential from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, and basic life support for health care providers certification from the American Heart Association Inc. He has also received certification from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, reflecting his dedication to maintaining the highest standards of clinical expertise and patient care.
Reflecting on his career, Mr. Kalapodis attributes his success to an eagerness to learn from every experience and credits his older brother and father for their steadfast encouragement throughout his journey. Inspired by his mother's career as an emergency room nurse, he chose nursing after initially pursuing communication marketing during college but ultimately found greater fulfillment in direct patient interaction. Mr. Kalapodis also emphasizes the importance of empathy in nursing, highlighting the need to connect with patients who may feel frightened or uncertain about their medical conditions.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Mr. Kalapodis is civically engaged as community chair of the Rotary Club and has served as night-shift vice chair for education and practice guidelines in intensive care units. His dedication has been recognized with honors such as the DAISY Award in 2017 and nominations for Nurse of the Year in both 2016 and 2020.
Born in Chicago, Mr. Kalapodis enjoys spending time with family and friends, including their dogs, as well as hiking, playing video games, watching action movies, cooking, volunteering and participating in local politics. Looking ahead, he envisions advancing into professional practice development within hospital settings where he can help fellow nurses understand not only what actions are necessary but also why they matter. Ultimately, Mr. Kalapodis aspires to drive system-wide improvements across health care organizations through innovative initiatives focused on quality patient outcomes.
