SEATTLE, WA, April 16, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Christopher J. Martin, LHG, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Marked by an impactful decades-long career in the field of environmental services, Mr. Martin currently serves as the regional hydrogeologist for the Water Quality Program in the Northwest region at the Washington State Department of Ecology, a position he has held since 2012. In this capacity, he is responsible for overseeing groundwater quality initiatives and regulatory compliance, particularly in the context of a recent organizational restructuring aimed at improving operational efficiency.
Mr. Martin's expertise is evident in his leadership on critical projects, most notably his work drafting numerous state waste discharge permits. These permits address significant wastewater management challenges and play a vital role in protecting groundwater resources from contamination. He is currently assisting the Central Regional Office of the Department of Ecology as a hydrogeologist as they look to fill the vacancy in that office, further demonstrating his commitment to environmental protection and regulatory excellence.
Before joining the Washington State Department of Ecology, Mr. Martin spent several years as a consultant, where he provided hydrogeological expertise to a range of clients. His consulting work allowed him to develop tailored solutions for complex groundwater issues, drawing on his longstanding technical knowledge and problem-solving skills.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Martin worked with a contractor for seven years, gaining hands-on experience in field operations and project management related to groundwater and environmental services. He also contributed his knowledge to a firm in New Jersey specializing in drilling large-capacity municipal and industrial wells, where he was involved in projects that supported public water supply infrastructure.
Mr. Martin began his professional journey with roles as a hydrogeologist at Westinghouse Idaho Nuclear and Argonne National Laboratory at the Idaho National Laboratory in Idaho. In recognition of his impact at Argonne, he was presented with the Pacesetter Award for outstanding contributions to the environmental program at the facility.
Alongside his primary roles, Mr. Martin has been actively engaged with industry-related organizations such as the local chapter of the International Plastic Model Society and the National Groundwater Association. In 2026, he was appointed chair of the Washington Hydrogeology Symposium, further reflecting his leadership within the field.
Mr. Martin's equally accomplished academic background includes a Master of Science in hydrogeology from the University of Idaho, earned in 1997, as well as a Bachelor of Science in geology from Stockton University, completed in 1981. To augment his qualifications, he became licensed as a hydrogeologist by the Washington Department of Licensing in 2011.
Reflecting on his storied journey thus far, Mr. Martin attributes his success to being detail oriented, patient and knowledgeable — qualities that have enabled him to excel in diverse roles and enhance communities through the hydrogeology sector. He also credits being able to work in positive environments and having supportive supervisors who empowered him with autonomy while providing clear objectives. The guidance of numerous mentors throughout his career has further shaped his approach to both problem solving and leadership.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Martin is civically engaged as a supporter of The Groundwater Foundation, which strives to improve the long-term stewardship of water resources by connecting individuals, businesses and communities. In recognition of his outstanding achievements in hydrology and environmental services, he was honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024.
A deeply devoted family man, Mr. Martin values spending time with his children, Aidan, Kyra, and Dylan, all of whom are married. Two reside nearby while his youngest lives in Montana. He is also a proud grandfather to Calista, Amara and Mathis. Alongside the fulfillment of his family life, he enjoys creative hobbies such as building static plastic models.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Martin aims to prepare for retirement while considering opportunities to leverage his extensive experience as a consultant on a global scale. Although he has received notifications about senior positions within social agencies and has interacted with many skilled hydrogeologists throughout his career, he remains focused on applying his core expertise to assist those in need while bringing more young people into the field.
