Since 2016, Ms. Humbrecht has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania. In this capacity, she develops and implements innovative online learning platforms to support asynchronous student engagement and designs doctoral-level informatics coursework delivered in a virtual environment. She collaborates with academic teams to transition curriculum to new digital teaching systems and facilitates student learning through online tools, resources and structured course content.

Adapting her teaching methodologies to align with evolving educational technologies, Ms. Humbrecht ensures accessibility, clarity and effectiveness in online instruction. Her dedication to supporting student success is evident in her efforts to prepare future leaders in nursing informatics.

From 2023 to 2025, Ms. Humbrecht served as the system vice president of clinical informatics at CommonSpirit Health. In this senior leadership role, she oversaw multiple electronic health record integration and enhancements across several states. Her tenure was marked by a focus on large-scale technology integration and change management, ensuring that clinical informatics initiatives aligned with organizational goals and improved patient outcomes.

Between 2018 and 2023, Ms. Humbrecht served as the senior director and chief nursing informatics officer at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. During this period, she became certified in the Virginia Mason Production System and played a pivotal role in leading projects that integrated advanced technologies into clinical workflows.

Notably, while stationed in Seattle during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Humbrecht collaborated with major companies, including Microsoft and Amazon, to address critical staffing needs and facilitate equipment sharing among hospitals. Through these partnerships, she helped establish a major vaccination clinic that served thousands of individuals each weekend, effectively tracking and documenting vaccinations using innovative systems.

Ms. Humbrecht's earlier career was defined by her long-standing tenure at Jefferson Health from 1987 to 2018, where she progressed from staff nurse in orthopedics to clinical nurse and unit manager in the cardiac unit before ultimately becoming chief nursing informatics officer. Her journey into informatics began around 2003 when she led the implementation of computerized physician order entry systems followed by electronic interprofessional documenation, initiatives that garnered several awards and sparked her enduring interest in clinical informatics.

As the first clinical informaticist hired at Abington Hospital within Jefferson Health, Ms. Humbrecht expanded her responsibilities to include oversight of electronic health records and device integrations. Among her most notable achievements was the development of patient-friendly summaries for inpatient care, a pioneering effort that earned her the Magnet Prize Award in 2008 for the Daily Care Plan project. Additionally, she developed clinical decision support systems for vaccine administration that streamlined communication regarding patient vaccination schedules well before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ms. Humbrecht's professional affiliations reflect her commitment to advancing nursing informatics at the national level. She is an active member of the American Nursing Informatics Association — where she currently serves as past-president — the American Organization for Nursing Leadership, the American Nurses Association and previously on the GE International Board.

Education has been instrumental in shaping Ms. Humbrecht's career trajectory. In 2014, she earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice in informatics from Vanderbilt University, following a Master of Science in nursing leadership with a minor in clinical informatics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in 2008. Ms. Humbrecht has also earned several professional certifications, including the Informatics Nursing certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 2017 and certification in the Virginia Mason Production System program in 2021.

Throughout her career, Ms. Humbrecht has credited much of her success to mentorship from nurse leaders who empowered her to articulate the significance of clinical informatics within nursing practice. Her ability to translate complex concepts into accessible terms has enabled healthcare leaders, including chief nursing officers, to make informed decisions about technology adoption for patient care. She is widely recognized for fostering collaboration among interprofessional teams and emphasizing the essential contributions of all disciplines within health care settings.

Ms. Humbrecht's achievements have been recognized through numerous awards. These include the Mary L. McClinton Patient Safety Award, the Professional Transforming Practice Award from Nursing Spectrum, the Magnet Prize Award from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the Innovator of the Year distinction in 2013.

Outside her professional endeavors, Ms. Humbrecht's civic involvement includes support for organizations such as the American Red Cross, GoodRoots and Bonney Lake Food Bank. Her multiple roles on the board of the American Nursing Informatics Association has facilitated national networking opportunities and advocacy efforts within her specialty.

Ms. Humbrecht has also contributed significantly to scholarly literature with publications such as "Using a Decision Support Algorithm for Referrals to Post-Acute Care," published by the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association in 2018; "Information Security and Confidentiality," featured in Pearson's Handbook of Informatics for Nurses & Healthcare Professionals also in 2018; and "The Impact of Medication Management within the Microsystem of a Heart Failure Unit," published in 2015.

Born in Philadelphia, Ms. Humbrecht enjoys time with family, traveling and reading outside her professional commitments.
