Launching Purple Sheep Consulting to mirror her journey and experiences as a black woman in leadership in the higher education sector, Dr. Harris's company is an extension of her commitment to uplifting others, fostering mentorship opportunities, and cultivating a sense of belonging. Driven by a passion for inclusivity, Purple Sheep Consulting is notably named after the title of her doctoral dissertation, 'The Invisible Purple Sheep,' which delves into the frequently overlooked presence of black women leaders in research administration within universities.
Apart from the success of her consulting company, Dr. Harris has been engaged in higher education in various roles for over 25 years. Since 2020, she has been a faculty member at Johns Hopkins University Advanced Academic Programs in Washington, D.C. She previously worked for Pennsylvania State University as the assistant vice president of research for post-award and contractual compliance, the University of Connecticut as the director of award management and post-award services, and Emory University as an associate director, then director of operations. Additionally, Dr. Harris was a senior consultant at Attain in Atlanta and an administrative director at the Center for Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute, in Philadelphia.
Civically engaged, Dr. Harris donates to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital. Purple Sheep Consulting also frequently supports local sports teams and summer youth basketball programs and launched the Purple Sunshine project, an annual effort dedicated to providing clothing and shoes for school children in Africa.
Dr. Harris graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in human resource management with a minor in information systems in 2012 and a Master of Business Administration in 2015. She also received a Doctor of Education in learning and organizational change from Baylor University in 2023. Moreover, Dr. Harris received certification in human resources management through Temple University and business communication and essentials of management through Emory University.
As a leader in her field, Dr. Harris remains abreast as a member of the National Organization of Research Development Professionals. Among other industry-related organizations, she is a member of the National Council of University Research Administrators' professional development committee, a board member of the Temple University Black Alumni Alliance, and a member of the diversity, equity, and inclusion committee of the Society of Research Administrators International.
Recognizing her success, Dr. Harris received a Distinguished Service Award for Region III from the National Council of University Research Administrators for establishing a mentorship program that benefited the region and the research administration profession. The organization also honored her with the Julia Jacobsen Distinguished Service Award for her contributions to the National Council and the broader field of research administration.
