LITTLE ROCK, AR, April 30, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shweta Dabetwar has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Dabetwar has established herself as a leading expert in structural health monitoring within mechanical engineering and predictive analysis using artificial intelligence (AI). Since 2023, she has served as an assistant professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where she devotes her efforts to research, teaching and service. In her teaching role, Dr. Dabetwar instructs graduate and upper-level undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering. Her service contributions include developing AI courses for faculty, demonstrating how large language models can be integrated into classroom instruction and workflow improvement.
In the fall of 2023, Dr. Dabetwar founded the Material Intelligence and Prognostics Lab (MIP Lab), initially mentoring one student (master's graduated in August 2025) and expanding the team to include three students now: a master's student, a student transitioning from undergraduate to master's studies, and an undergraduate researcher. Her research encompasses brain tumor analysis, 3D printed composite materials, and lithium-ion batteries, all contributing to her vision of advancing smarter predictive analysis. The MIP Lab also undertakes remote inspection projects for agricultural applications, aligning with her students' research interests.
Before teaching in Arkansas, Dr. Dabetwar was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, from 2021 to 2023. In this capacity, she advanced her expertise in mechanical engineering research while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
From 2015 to 2020, Dr. Dabetwar was a PhD student, served as a graduate teaching assistant (2016-2019), and a graduate part-time instructor (2019-2020) at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. She also garnered expertise as a graduate research assistant at Texas Tech University between 2016 and 2019, focusing on fatigue damage diagnostics and prognostics of composites using AI. During this period, Dr. Dabetwar pioneered data fusion and data augmentation through generative adversarial neural networks. This technique was virtually nonexistent at the time but has since become widely adopted.
Dr. Dabetwar's academic journey began in India, where she earned a diploma in science from M. H. High School and Junior College in Thane, awarded in 2010. She then received a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Mumbai in Mumbai, India, graduating in 2014 after navigating demanding coursework and participating in technical societies and regional paper presentations during her undergraduate years. From there, Dr. Dabetware became a student assistant at Texas Tech University from 2015 to 2016, where she supported various departmental initiatives while acclimating to graduate-level research in the U.S. Additionally, she earned a Doctor of Philosophy in mechanical engineering from Texas Tech University in 2020, specializing in fatigue damage diagnostics and prognostics of composites using artificial intelligence, followed by postdoctoral research in mechanical engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, in 2023.
Actively involved in her professional community, Dr. Dabetwar is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), chairing sessions at the International Conference of Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. Earlier, she had the opportunity to serve as the track chair for the Safety Engineering and Risk Analysis Division's track in 2025 and as the track co-chair in 2026. Dr. Dabetwar has also been active as a reviewer for ASME and Sensors MDPI since 2021, session chair for IMECE conferences since 2021, reviewer for many journals, including Automation in Construction, Journal of Building Engineering, and Reliability and Safety Engineering. she has been appointed as an Editor for Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering systems, and panel member for the National Science Foundation and track lead for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers since 2024.
Throughout her career, Dr. Dabetwar has been recognized for her educational leadership and scholarly contributions. She has served as an instructor with the College Connect Division of Diversity, Unity, and Inclusion at Texas Tech University since 2019 and as a reviewer for Structural Health Monitoring with SAGE Publishing since 2021. Additionally, Dr. Dabetwar's scholarly output includes serving on the early career editorial board for the ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems Part B: Mechanical Engineering since 2022.
While she values attaining leadership positions, such as her current fourth vice-chair role at the ASME, Dr. Dabetwar emphasizes that making a difference in her students' lives stands above all other accomplishments. Notably, she was the recipient of the prestigious National Talent Search Scholarship, awarded in India during her junior year at Mumbai University. She also received two consecutive Best Research Poster Awards at the International Conference of Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (ASME) in 2024 and 2025, alongside her students from the MIP Lab. In 2026, Dr. Dabetwar received a Rising Faculty Award from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, an honor typically reserved for faculty further along their tenure track.
Dr. Dabetwar attributes her success to perseverance, curiosity and guidance from mentors throughout her life. Looking ahead, she is committed to mentoring students effectively by ensuring that every interaction is helpful or inspiring. Dr. Dabetwar also aims to address critical gaps in brain tumor research by developing tools that improve diagnostics and patient care through AI-driven solutions while continuing to expand her research laboratory's capabilities. Supporting students' aspirations remains central to her vision as she seeks to make meaningful contributions both within academia and beyond.
