Since 2016, she has served as president and founder of CraftED Curriculum, where she has dedicated a decade to facilitating workshops, writing educational content, publishing articles and presenting at conferences nationwide. In this capacity, Dr. Pieratt also manages essential business operations, including financial oversight and business strategy and marketing. Her leadership at CraftED Curriculum has enabled her to travel across the United States and abroad, supporting teachers in implementing project-based learning strategies that engage students and transform classrooms.
In 2025, Dr. Pieratt was appointed Interim Chair of Innovative and Entrepreneurial Learning at Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina. During her tenure, she oversaw the innovation department, developed a diploma program in entrepreneurial studies and taught two entrepreneurship classes. Her work at Providence Day School reflected her ongoing dedication to preparing students for success in an evolving world.
Before these roles, Dr. Pieratt contributed her expertise as national faculty with PBLWorks from 2015 to 2016, where she played a pivotal role in advancing project-based learning methodologies among educators. From 2012 to 2015, she served as a School Development Coach with New Tech Network, a nationwide coalition focused on school reform and project-based learning. In this position, she supported 12 schools in implementing innovative instructional models.
Earlier in her career, Dr. Pieratt spent five years as a teacher leader at High Tech High School in San Diego from 2007 to 2012. She began her professional journey as a classroom teacher with the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego from 2003 to 2007. With over 22 years in education, Dr. Pieratt has consistently advocated for engaging learning experiences and is widely recognized for her expertise in project-based learning.
Dr. Pieratt is an active member of several professional organizations, including the International Society for Technology in Education and ASCD. Her contributions to the field have been recognized through numerous awards, such as the Editor's Content Choice Award from SmartBrief Education in 2018, the CIPA EVVY Award from the Colorado Independent Publishers Association and recognition as a finalist for the Foreword Indies Book Award. She was also named San Diego Notable Businesswoman of the Year.
Among her most significant accomplishments are her publications "Keep It Real with PBL" for both elementary and secondary education audiences, which have received industry accolades. Dr. Pieratt's written works extend to articles such as "Closing the Feedback Loop During Remote Learning" for Teaching Channel in 2021 and "Leading Adult Learning during COVID-19" for GettingSmart.com in 2020. She co-authored "3 Ways Entrepreneurs Can Reinvent Small Businesses Right Now" for Conscious Company Magazine and contributed numerous other articles addressing parent engagement and student collaboration within project-based learning frameworks.
Her academic background includes earning a Doctor of Philosophy in education from Claremont Graduate University in 2011. She holds a master's degree in cross-cultural education and a bachelor's degree in political science and government from San Diego State University, earned in 2003. Dr. Pieratt further broadened her perspective through international study programs at the University of San Diego from 2000 to 2001 and at the University of Oxford in international relations and affairs in 2001.
Dr. Pieratt's professional qualifications are complemented by an array of certifications: paralegal certificate from Duke University valid through 2033; instructional design: adult learners from LinkedIn (2025); AI in design thinking from IDEO U (2025); certified paralegal designation from NALA | The Paralegal Association (2024); advanced Microsoft Office certification from ONLC (2023); LexisNexis proficiency certification (2023) and practice-ready certification (2023); as well as various California teaching credentials.
She attributes much of her success to the strong work ethic instilled by hardworking parents who served as role models throughout her upbringing.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Pieratt is deeply involved in civic activities. She has volunteered with the Young Men's Service League since 2025 and has served as a Meals on Wheels San Diego County delivery driver since 2021. As the secretary for Encinitas Little League since 2020 and a volunteer with Cardiff Schools' site council since 2018, she demonstrates an ongoing commitment to community engagement. Her involvement includes serving as a partner with the San Diego STEM Ecosystem K-12 Education Work Group since 2016, an independent citizen oversight committee member for the Cardiff School District from 2017 to 2019, and vice president of Cardiff SEA during the 2016 to 2017 academic year.
Born in San Diego, Dr. Pieratt enjoys exercising, attending her children's sports games, watching professional sports events, gardening and reading books.
