Since the mid-1980s, he has been at the helm of Jeffery Jerome Grace, MD, PC, in Buffalo, New York, where he serves as a physician and addiction specialist. Dr. Grace's clinical expertise is demonstrated through his work in both an outpatient mental health clinic and a clinical dependency clinic, where he continues to impact the lives of individuals seeking support for mental health and substance use challenges.

Since 2016, Dr. Grace has also served as the medical director at Acacia Network/Promesa/Alba De Vida in Buffalo, where he directs comprehensive addiction treatment services. Additionally, since 2021, he has been working as a psychiatrist of behavioral health and medical director of the outpatient mental health clinic at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center in Niagara Falls, New York. In this capacity, Dr. Grace oversees psychiatric care and provides leadership in program development and patient management.

Dr. Grace provided psychiatric services at various levels for more than 30 years at the Buffalo Psychiatric Center. His tenure at this institution began in 1988 as the chief of psychiatry and director for two years. He also spent over 25 years as the facility's clinical director, starting in 1991. Dr. Grace regards this period as one of his most significant professional achievements due to the profound impact on countless patients, their families and the community.

Among other professional opportunities within the field, Dr. Grace contributed as a consulting psychiatrist at Northwest Community Mental Health Center in Buffalo for over two decades, from 1990 to 2014, and at Erie County Medical Center Corporation's inpatient detoxification unit between 1988 and 2011. He was also the medical director for Liberty Healthcare Corporation's Buffalo Group from 1988 to 1995 and the chief of forensic psychiatry and director of correctional health services at Westchester County Medical Center between 1986 and 1988.

Dr. Grace's earlier appointments include attending staff psychiatrist and clinical chief of unit at Albert Einstein College of Medicine's Montefiore Einstein/Rikers Island Mental Health Service from 1985 to 1988. He was also a part-time attending staff psychiatrist with Placer County Mental Health Services in California between 1984 and 1985 and a part-time attending staff psychiatrist at Sacramento County Jail with the University of California (UC) Davis Health from 1984 to 1985. Additionally, Dr. Grace spent 1984 to 1985 as a senior psychiatric resident for inpatient services at UC Davis Health.

In academia, Dr. Grace held appointments as an assistant professor of psychiatry at Westchester County Medical Center, affiliated with New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, from 1986 to 1990. He also taught as a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at the State University of New York in Buffalo from 1988 to 2021.

Dr. Grace's academic journey began with a diploma from Mumford High School in Detroit in 1973, where he graduated salutatorian. He earned an associate degree from Highland Park Community College in Highland Park, Michigan, in 1974, followed by a bachelor's degree in zoology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1975. Dr. Grace completed postgraduate coursework in biology at the school of medicine at Wayne State University in Detroit in 1977 before earning a Doctor of Medicine on campus in 1981.

In 1982, Dr. Grace completed an internship in categorical medicine at UC Davis Health in Sacramento, followed by a residency in psychiatry in 1985. He further advanced his expertise through a research fellowship focused on the biological and psychopharmacology aspects of psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine's Montefiore Einstein campus in 1986.

Dr. Grace is licensed to practice in New York and previously held licenses in several other states. His additional credentials include certification in alcoholism and other drug dependencies through the American Society of Addiction Medicine since 1991, and national board certification through the American Board of Disability Analysts since 2000.

Recognized as a distinguished life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association since 2018, Dr. Grace has also been a diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine since 2009 and a diplomate and life fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute since 1998. He also maintains membership with the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the American College of Mental Health Administration and, among others, the Buffalo Academy of Medicine. Dr. Grace has notably served in numerous capacities with several professional organizations during his career, including as a past president of the Western New York Psychiatric Society. Beyond his work-related affiliations, he remains civically engaged through ELIM Christian Fellowship, which is based in Buffalo.

Dr. Grace has contributed extensively to professional literature, including numerous articles published across various journals within his specialty areas. He has also contributed his expertise as a panelist during the 'Gun Violence and Mental Health Panel Discussion' organized by St. Joseph University Parish Gun Violence Awareness Committee/New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, as a panelist during the International Survivors of Suicide Day Conference organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention/Buffalo Psychiatric Center, and as a presenter during "Buffalo Health Matters!…A Community Conversation" hosted at Bennett High School in Buffalo.

Recognized with numerous honors, Dr. Grace was recently the recipient of a Difference-Maker Award at the Black Tie for Black History event in 2018, received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Eighth Annual Men of Integrity Awards in 2018, and was presented with the 47th Buffalo Black Achievers Award by Lippes Mathias LLP in 2019. He attributes much of his professional success to his faith, along with steadfast support from family members and colleagues.

Drawn into psychiatry by a desire to help others enrich their lives, Dr. Grace has witnessed significant advancements in psychiatric care during his tenure, including the development of new medications that have expanded treatment options for emotional disorders. Looking ahead, he intends to continue serving as a medical physician, general adult psychiatrist and addiction specialist, roles through which he finds deep fulfillment.
