His expertise in managing stored value solutions through card systems that provide yield and rewards is complemented by his successful collaboration with Marqeta and Rain to facilitate the issuance of stablecoin-based virtual cards.
Recruited from PayPal, Mr. Ramakrishnan was a lead product manager - technical from 2017 to 2025 in San Francisco. During his tenure, he made significant contributions to the PayPal Commerce platform, where he was instrumental in API integration for major partners across various tiers, including small and medium businesses as well as larger enterprises. Mr. Ramakrishnan's efforts were crucial in onboarding tens of thousands of Shopify's end customers, which enhanced payment volume for both first-party and third-party marketplaces. Notably, his work at PayPal resulted in several patents related to risk management, blockchain technology, identity verification and user personalization through machine learning and artificial intelligence. One of his most notable patents in the cryptocurrency domain was filed in 2017.
During the first half of 2017, Mr. Ramakrishnan served as a software engineer at DPP Tech Inc. for PayPal, where he contributed to software development projects that laid the groundwork for his subsequent leadership roles within the fintech sector. From 2015 to 2016, he excelled as a project lead at Syntel Inc. (now Atos Syntel), working with PayPal. Between 2010 and 2015, Mr. Ramakrishnan worked as a senior associate at Cognizant for clients such as Symantec in Eugene and The Home Depot.
Mr. Ramakrishnan's earlier experience includes serving as an ETL analyst at eBusinessWare for The Royal Bank of Scotland India (now NatWest Markets PLC) from 2009 to 2010. There, he specialized in data integration and compliance management for financial services clients. Mr. Ramakrishnan began his career as a software engineer at Satyam Computer Services Limited (now Mahindra Satyam), contributing to projects for the World Bank Group, HP, General Motors and S&P Global from 2006 to 2009.
His work has received significant attention, and he received a $5 million National Science Foundation grant to develop his Machine Learning Commerce Platform. This innovation will redefine transaction processing capabilities in the financial technology industry. By creating modular microservice architectures, he will optimize payment processing platforms and translate complex technical concepts into tangible improvements to user experiences. Mr. Ramakrishnan is also developing a voice-activated payment system on a government contract. This involves the development of voice-activated payment tools. Mr. Ramakrishnan holds a Bachelor of Science in engineering in electronics and communication from Anna University in Madras, Tamil Nadu, India, where he graduated with first-class distinction. He also obtained an Executive Master of Business Administration from Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California, graduating in the top 10% of his class. Mr. Ramakrishnan was notably recognized with induction into Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society (the highest academic honor a business student can achieve) at Santa Clara University and received both the Big Leap Scholarship Federation of Foundational Excellence Scholarship and the Woelffel Foundation Business Scholarship, a merit-based scholarship granted by the Executive MBA Committee.
