FORT MYERS, FL, May 14, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Jose L. Estrada has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Estrada's distinguished career in animal biotechnology, genetics and reproductive science spans more than 30 years and is marked by pioneering achievements and leadership across Colombia and the United States. Most recently, he served as an associate professor of research at the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami from 2019 to 2025. In this capacity, Dr. Estrada contributed significantly to the advancement of xenotransplantation, focusing on cloning genetically modified pigs as organ donors for humans. The objective of this mission is to provide solutions to the global shortage of human organs for transplantation, saving lives and advancing medical innovation for human health and development.

Recognized for his foundational contributions to reproductive technology, Dr. Estrada's expertise in cloning, somatic cell nuclear transfer and animal reproduction led to some of the highest reported production and pregnancy rates in pigs, establishing new benchmarks in the field. Among his most notable accomplishments is his foundational role in developing an animal model that underpins the production of genetically engineered pigs for xenotransplantation, a contribution highlighted by a widely cited 2015 publication in Xenotransplantation.

Prior to his time at the University of Miami, Dr. Estrada held the position of research assistant professor at The University of Alabama, where he furthered his research in animal biotechnology and xenotransplantation. From 2007 to 2016, he was a research assistant professor at Indiana University, where his work garnered recognition with the Carl-Gustav Groth Xeno Prize award (2012), for outstanding contributions to scientific research. Earlier in his career, Dr. Estrada was affiliated with North Carolina State University, where he engaged in advanced research following completion of his post-doctoral studies. Dr. Estrada's innovative spirit is further evidenced by his participation in research projects that supported several patents in animal biotechnology and reproductive technologies.

Before relocating to the United States, Dr. Estrada established himself as a leader in Colombia's scientific community. He served as the director of the Institute of Genetics at the National University of Colombia and held a professorship there, guiding both academic programs and groundbreaking research initiatives. As the director of the National Biotechnology Program at the Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario (ICA), he oversaw national efforts in biotechnology while also directing the Colombian national program of animal genetic resources.

During his time as the director of the National Biotechnology Program, Dr. Estrada achieved several milestones: he performed Colombia's first cattle in vitro fertilization procedure and established the country's germplasm bank of embryos, which played a critical role in preserving creole breeds and advancing genetic resource management.

Dr. Estrada's academic foundation is rooted in rigorous scientific training. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in animal sciences and biotechnology with a focus on genetics and reproduction — particularly embryology — from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. His earlier education includes a degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and a Master of Science in reproduction and genetics.

Dr. Estrada's contributions extend beyond laboratory research into scholarly publishing and peer review. He serves as an editorial board member for multiple journals including Xenotransplantation, Transplantation, Cloning Stem Cells, and several MDPI journals, specializing in animal science, genetics, reproduction, molecular genetics and bioengineering. He continues to act as a peer reviewer for these publications, reflecting his commitment to advancing scientific knowledge within the global community.

After leaving the academic world, Dr. Estrada remains actively engaged with the scientific community through ongoing editorial responsibilities and peer review activities. He established Clones and Genes Bioscience LLC to offer consulting services based on his extensive expertise, while also focusing on authoring a book documenting his body of work. Additionally, he is expanding his involvement into community-based or volunteer activities beyond academia and research.
