NEWPORT BEACH, CA, May 19, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Robert Louis, MD, FAANS, FCNS, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Louis has distinguished himself as a leader in the field of neurosurgery, particularly in the advancement of minimally invasive brain tumor surgery. Since he has served as the Program Director skull base and Pituitary Surgery at Hoag Health System, where he is responsible for diagnosing and surgically managing all types of brain tumors, both benign and malignant. Most recently, he was named as the Surgical Director of the Brain Tumor Program at Hoag.

In his leadership capacity, Dr. Louis utilizes advanced technologies to perform operations using the least invasive approach possible. He has pioneered the use of artificial intelligence to create a digital twin of each patient, which enables surgeons to simulate surgical procedures beforehand and develop tailored plans for every individual. By integrating these digital twins into the operating microscope, he provides a heads-up display with augmented reality, allowing for enhanced visualization of critical anatomical structures during surgery. This innovative approach has contributed significantly to improving neurological outcomes and accelerating patient recovery — a milestone he considers his most meaningful professional accomplishment. He was awarded severals patent for his contributions to surgical technology in 2019, further cementing his reputation as an innovator.

Additionally, Dr. Louis has held the role of department chair at the Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute — also part of Hoag — since 2020. Throughout his tenure, he has overseen clinical operations and fostered a culture of innovation within the department, contributing to the institute's reputation for integrity and quality throughout Orange County and beyond.

Alongside his primary roles, Dr. Louis is actively involved in professional organizations that reflect his commitment to sharing knowledge and staying informed on the latest advancements in neurosurgery. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the North American Skull Base Society and the American Board of Neurological Surgery.

Hailing from an equally accomplished academic background, Dr. Louis began his higher education at Boston University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in human physiology in 2001. He continued at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, obtaining a Doctor of Medicine in 2007. Upon finishing his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Virginia in 2013, he completed a fellowship in minimally invasive neurosurgery at the John Wayne Cancer Institute (now Providence Saint John's Cancer Institute) in 2014. To augment his qualifications, he is also board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.

Reflecting on his storied journey thus far, Dr. Louis is immensely grateful to the mentors who guided him during college, medical school and his residency, with their time and knowledge playing a pivotal role in shaping his professional path. Influenced by his parents, both of whom worked as educators, he values teaching as an essential means of learning and sharing experience within the medical community. Likewise, his background as a neuroanatomist has enabled him to leverage technology for safer surgical procedures and contribute to developing tools that enhance anatomical visualization.

Beyond his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Louis is dedicated to civic engagement through volunteer work with the Hoag Hospital Foundation. He raises awareness about brain tumors in local schools by introducing students to medicine using virtual reality technology — a passion rooted in his own formative experience when a neurosurgeon visited his sixth-grade classroom.

Among his highest honors, Dr. Louis was awarded with an endowed chair awarded by the Empower360 Foundation in 2020 after a $1.5 million donation established an endowment in support of research in minimally invasive neurosurgery.

In his personal life, Dr. Louis is the proud father of one daughter, Amandari, and maintains an active lifestyle by playing sports, skiing, whitewater rafting, whitewater kayaking, hiking and mountaineering as a balance to his professional responsibilities.

Determined to further his medical impact in the coming years, Dr. Louis aims to expand techniques and technologies that make brain surgery even less intrusive by developing microinvasive procedures with incisions as small as three to five millimeters. He is focused on building partnerships with medical technology companies and research institutions to enhance collaboration and elevate advancements in neurosurgical technology on both national and international stages.
