WINSTON SALEM, NC, May 20, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rev. Fr. Melchesideck Wirngo Yumo has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Father Yumo currently serves as parish administrator of St. Benedict the Moor Church and Good Shepherd Mission, a role he has held since 2023. In this capacity, he addresses the spiritual needs of all parishioners by celebrating Mass, hearing confessions, and providing spiritual direction. He manages the parish's administrative responsibilities, represents the church, and communicates with external entities on the parish's behalf. Additionally, Father Yumo oversees infrastructure development and maintains parish facilities. His tenure has been marked by significant achievements, most notably his efforts to foster unity between African American and Hispanic communities within the parish. Under his leadership, relations between these groups have improved considerably after years of tension, and the church has experienced notable progress in both infrastructure and spiritual development.
Before his current appointment, Father Yumo served as parochial vicar at Saint Mark Catholic Church in Huntersville, North Carolina, for four years. During this period, he provided pastoral care, celebrated sacraments, and supported the faith formation of parishioners. His commitment to service was evident in his dedication to addressing the diverse needs of a growing congregation.
Before relocating to the United States, Father Yumo held several key positions in Cameroon. As director of family life for the Diocese of Buea, he was responsible for promoting family values and supporting families through various programs and initiatives. His leadership strengthened community bonds and enhanced support systems for families facing challenges.
Earlier in his career, Father Yumo served as principal of Regina Pacis Comprehensive College in Mutengene, Cameroon, for one year. In this role, he managed academic programs, supervised staff, and guided students' educational journeys. His tenure as principal was characterized by a focus on holistic education and fostering a nurturing environment for students.
Father Yumo also served as a campus minister at the Catholic University Institute of Buea for one year, providing spiritual guidance to students and organizing faith-based activities that fostered personal growth and community engagement.
His ministry began as a chaplain at St Ann High School, Limbe, a girls' high school in Cameroon, following his ordination as a priest in April 2015. For one year, he offered spiritual support to students and staff while promoting moral values within the school community.
Father Yumo's academic background is extensive. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in law and an ecclesiastical degree in canon law, with plans to complete these studies in June 2026. He holds a bachelor's degree in civil law, a bachelor's degree in philosophy, and a bachelor's degree in theology. These academic achievements have provided him with a strong foundation for his pastoral work and administrative responsibilities within the church.
He was ordained as a priest in 2015, a certification that marked the beginning of his vocation. Father Yumo attributes his success to his unwavering faith in God, inspiration drawn from his spiritual beliefs, and the support of friends and colleagues who have united with him to bring hope to the communities he serves. Born into a Christian family with deeply devoted Catholic parents, he was instilled with strong faith from an early age. After overcoming personal challenges regarding his beliefs through deep reflection, he reconnected with his faith and answered his calling to become a Catholic priest—the first in his family to do so.
Beyond his clerical duties, Father Yumo is the founder of the Do It For Jesus Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting underprivileged children who cannot afford education by fundraising to keep them enrolled in school. Through this initiative, he expresses his love for humanity and God by helping those facing difficult circumstances.
His commitment to service has been recognized by organizations such as the Knights of Columbus, which named him Knight of the Month. Among his projects is "Parishes unite to transform St. Benedict the Moor Church," reflecting his dedication to fostering unity and revitalizing church communities.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Father Yumo enjoys traveling, visiting people and spending time with them, reading, and listening to good music. Looking ahead, he plans to publish a book about his personal life story titled "I Am with You Always," with the subtitle "How the Invisible Hand of God Has Always Guided Me." This work will reflect on how God has used supportive individuals to help him achieve his goals throughout his journey.
Father Yumo continues to inspire others through his devotion to God, compassion for people—especially those facing adversity—and commitment to using his talents in service to humanity.
