This collective expertise in permitting, land and claim management, project lifecycle support, and capital project oversight has established Sunstone as a trusted partner in the mining sector.

Before helping launch Sunstone, Mr. Dougherty made significant contributions at Elko Mining Group in Reno, Nevada. As Environmental Manager from 2021 to 2023, he led environmental compliance for large-scale mining operations and championed best practices in sustainability and regulatory excellence. From 2019 to 2021, he served as Project Lead and Senior Project Coordinator, managing multidisciplinary teams, expertly coordinating complex schedules and resources across multiple projects, and facilitating clear communication among stakeholders to deliver projects efficiently.

From 2017 to 2019, as Senior Environmental Coordinator, he was responsible for environmental monitoring, permitting, and compliance obligations for an operating mine. In this role, he conducted field monitoring, sampling, and inspections to maintain regulatory compliance on active mining properties, maintained accurate records of permits and monitoring data, developed and delivered environmental training programs for staff and contractors, and implemented practical environmental controls to mitigate risk and maintain high compliance standards. This experience established a strong foundation for his advanced leadership roles.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Dougherty worked as a hydrogeologist at Farr West Engineering (now DOWL) from 2014 to 2017, conducting groundwater assessments and delivering technical expertise on water resource projects. His professional journey began as an Abandoned Mine Lands Program intern with the Nevada Division of Minerals (2012–2013), where he gained valuable hands-on experience in mine site evaluation and reclamation.

The Sunstone team has developed recognized expertise in mining and metals environmental consulting with specialized knowledge in permitting processes, land management and capital project oversight. Team members are active in several industry organizations, including the Nevada Mining Association, the Nevada Water Resources Association and the Northern Nevada Chapter of the Project Management Institute.

Academically, Mr. Dougherty earned a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Project Management from Saint Leo University in 2016 and a Bachelor of Science in Geological and Geophysical Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2014. He also holds Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Mine Safety and Health Administration certification, and specialized training in hazardous materials, first aid/CPR, and key environmental regulations including the Clean Air Act and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) coursework.

Mr. Dougherty credits the success of Sunstone to the entire team's driven, goal-oriented mindset and collaborative spirit.

His entry into environmental consulting, combined with early experience working with a private equity firm investing in mining properties, inspired him to collaborate with colleagues on innovative solutions. When that company began divesting from several projects, the group came together to found Sunstone Environmental Solutions — a firm dedicated to serving a wider client base, supporting the broader mining community, and delivering excellence through strong team performance.

Mr. Dougherty's contributions have been recognized by peers, most notably with the Safety Champion award from the Nevada Mining Association in 2018 while at Elko Mining Group. Beyond professional work, Sunstone stays engaged in the community, including participating in an Arizona Special Olympics charity golf tournament with a client in 2026.

On a personal note, Eric lives in Reno, Nevada with his wife and their two young children, ages five and seven. He makes family a priority, regularly spending time with his kids through play and activities like basketball.
