Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
For more than three decades, Dr. Alderfer has become renowned for her work as a mindfulness practitioner, certified microdosing coach, certified yoga therapist, global educator and, since 2025, the founder of Amadellics. Her recent professional endeavors reflect her pioneering spirit and commitment to advancing mindful practices in contemporary society. As a leader in this sector, Dr. Alderfer has developed and delivered educational content, mentored individuals seeking to integrate mindfulness into their daily lives, and contributed to the growing body of knowledge surrounding the intersection of mindfulness and microdosing. Her work in this field is informed by both personal experience and academic research, particularly her exploration of therapeutic potential for dementia care.
From 1997 to 2015, Dr. Alderfer was a writer, mindfulness teacher and adjunct professor at SIT Graduate Institute and Marlboro College Graduate & Professional Studies. During this period, she integrated self-reflection and mindfulness into higher education curricula, authored influential works on teaching from a place of presence and inspired students to cultivate global understanding through education.
Between 1997 and 2008, Dr. Alderfer held the position of English language learner director at the American Embassy School in New Delhi. She led the English language training program, overseeing curriculum development and supporting students from diverse linguistic backgrounds. Concurrently, from 1997 to 2007, Dr. Alderfer served as English as a Second Language coordinator on campus, where she implemented innovative approaches to bilingual education and fostered an inclusive learning environment.
Dr. Alderfer's extensive academic career also included a tenure as an adjunct professor at the School for International Training for 25 years, between 1985 and 2010. There, she contributed to the development of international education programs and mentored future educators in cross-cultural competency and language acquisition.
Having begun her academic journey with a groundbreaking experience as a high school student studying abroad through the Experiment in International Living, a formative opportunity that required special permission from the governor of Connecticut, this early immersion in another culture ignited Dr. Alderfer's passion for global issues and language learning. Following her undergraduate work, she earned a Master of Arts in teaching with concentrations in English as a second language, Spanish as a second language and bilingual bicultural education from the School for International Training. Furthermore, Dr. Alderfer received a Doctor of Philosophy in global educational leadership from the Union Institute and University in 2003. Her dissertation focused on cultural preservation within the Tibetan community in Dharamsala, India. This pivotal experience deepened her understanding of Eastern wisdom traditions while building upon her foundations in Western and South American influences.
In addition to her formal education, Dr. Alderfer holds several professional credentials, including certification as an end-of-life doula and being a certified yoga therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Moreover, she is a certified microdosing coach through the Microdosing Institute in the Netherlands, recognized as the first ever to be certified by the organization.
Beyond her work-related endeavors, Dr. Alderfer was involved with VISTA, an organization akin to the Domestic Peace Corps, and was an English language fellow in Venezuela and Ecuador. Both of these affiliations were supported by her work with Spanish-speaking communities domestically and abroad.
Dr. Alderfer's creative output is extensive. She is the author of "Mindful Microdosing: A Guidebook and Journal," published by Green Writers Press in 2024, a work she regards as her most notable achievement for its courage, vulnerability and invitation for others to listen deeply to their own hearts. The book stands as a culmination of her lifelong journey toward self-reflection and mindful living. Among Dr. Alderfer's other publications, she released "Tibetan Proverbs: Children's Voices from the Homeland," "Nine & A Half Fingers: A Tibetan Tale of Karma" and "The Dharma King" via Paljor Publications in 2005, 2009 and 2019, respectively, "Teaching as a Spiritual Practice" via Full Circle Publishing Ltd. in 2008, "Optimizing Learning" via the European Council of International Schools in 2010, "Mindful Monkey, Happy Panda" via Wisdom Publications in 2011 and "Teaching from the Heart of Mindfulness" via Green Writers Press in 2015. Each work reflects Dr. Alderfer's commitment to integrating mindfulness into education and daily life.
Throughout her career, Dr. Alderfer's expertise in mindful microdosing, coaching and mentoring has become widely recognized. Her achievements in these areas are underscored by her courage to step into emerging fields and her dedication to sharing knowledge that empowers others. Dr. Alderfer's contributions have been recognized with several honors, including an INDIE Award for Best Book in Education in 2015 for "Teaching from the Heart of Mindfulness" and a Volunteer Award from the American Embassy in Ecuador for her service abroad.
Throughout her journey, Dr. Alderfer has attributed her success to listening to her heart, harnessing fortitude, strength, and determination while maintaining gratitude through every challenge faced. Looking ahead, she remains guided by an enduring principle inspired by Rumi that says, "The road you must travel on lies in polishing the heart." This sentiment continues to illuminate her path as she seeks new ways to foster connection, presence and peace within herself and those she mentors.
