Widely recognized for his expertise in chronic pain syndrome and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), he has spent more than 15 years helping patients with some of the most challenging pain conditions while training the next generation of pain physicians.
Since 2011, Dr. Gerges has served as Chief of Pain Medicine at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, now Boston Medical Center–Brighton, and Medical Director of the St. Elizabeth's Pain Management Center. In these roles, he has overseen the growth and development of comprehensive pain management services while providing advanced interventional treatments for patients suffering from chronic pain disorders.
Since 2012, he has also served as Program Director of the Pain Medicine Fellowship at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, where he mentors physicians pursuing subspecialty training in pain medicine. His commitment to education, academic scholarship, and clinical innovation has earned him appointment as a Clinical Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. Through his teaching, research, and published work, Dr. Gerges has contributed to the advancement of evidence-based pain management practices.
Further demonstrating his leadership within the specialty, Dr. Gerges served as Vice President of Pain Management Services for Steward Medical Group from 2020 through 2024. In this executive role, he provided strategic oversight for pain management programs while helping expand access to specialized pain care across the healthcare system.
In addition to his clinical and academic responsibilities, Dr. Gerges has served as a medical expert witness in pain management since 2014 through Boston Anesthesia & Pain Consultants. His expertise is frequently sought in matters involving chronic pain, complex regional pain syndrome, spinal disorders, interventional pain management, and the long-term consequences of traumatic injuries.
Throughout his career, Dr. Gerges has developed particular expertise in complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), chronic pain syndrome, degenerative disc disease, lumbar and cervical spine disorders, neuropathic pain, and advanced interventional pain procedures. His work has earned him recognition among colleagues, patients, attorneys, and healthcare organizations alike.
An active member of numerous professional societies, Dr. Gerges maintains memberships in the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA), the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS), the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), and the Association of Pain Program Directors (APPD).
Dr. Gerges completed his fellowship in Pain Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in 2009, following completion of his Anesthesiology Residency at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center and Tufts University School of Medicine in 2008. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Lebanese University in 2001, after which he pursued Anesthesiology residency training at the American University of Beirut from 2001 to 2004. He subsequently continued his postgraduate medical training in the United States, further refining his expertise in anesthesiology and pain medicine before completing advanced fellowship training at Harvard Medical School.
