NEW YORK, NY, June 03, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Albert E. Cano Jr. has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Cano has established a distinguished career as a healthcare security professional, currently serving as a security operations manager at Mount Sinai-Harlem Health Center in Central Harlem, New York. Since 2023, he has overseen the security operations of this newly established behavioral health facility, where he is responsible for greeting staff, providing supportive leadership and identifying potential among team members. His daily responsibilities include conducting security briefings, training personnel on operational protocols, documenting incidents, and serving as a cross-departmental liaison and facility ambassador to facilitate access to engineering, information technology and work-order management resources. Mr. Cano's approach emphasizes recognition and validation of his team's accomplishments, particularly through the Certificate of Recognition program he co-founded with his partner, Jack Jeffrey. This initiative honors excellence among staff, including subcontracted personnel, ensuring all members feel visible and valued.
Before his work in Harlem, Mr. Cano served from 2015 to 2023 as a security field supervisor at Mount Sinai Morningside in the New York City metropolitan area. Recruited by a former superior to help establish the security department following Mount Sinai's acquisition of St. Luke's from Continuum Health Partners, he gained comprehensive exposure to the unique challenges of healthcare security. Mr. Cano's tenure was marked by a commitment to operational excellence and mentorship, where he led a team of approximately 20 officers, guiding colleagues through complex situations while fostering a culture of service. Notably, he was recognized as an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic, assisting the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Between 2010 and 2015, Mr. Cano held the position of security sergeant at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center (now BronxCare Health System) in Bronx, New York. In this capacity, he transitioned from higher education public safety into healthcare security within a high-risk environment. As the youngest sergeant at age 33, with no prior experience, in one of the nation's most dangerous neighborhoods, he overcame skepticism from peers and subordinates by demonstrating consistent attendance and reliable execution of duties. Mr. Cano managed critical incidents, including a significant emergency room event in 2011 involving rival gangs and gunfire, experiences that further honed his crisis management skills.
Mr. Cano began his security career at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York, serving as a public safety officer from 2007 to 2010. Entering the field with a newly obtained New York State security guard license and limited experience, he embraced the opportunity to learn from the ground up. Mr. Cano's focus was on supporting students and staff by ensuring their safety across campus during late hours, a formative experience that shaped his understanding of service-oriented security.
In addition to his primary career in healthcare security, Mr. Cano has maintained involvement in media and performing arts since 2008 as a talk show host, associate producer and videographer for Out Da Box Media NYC. He also appeared as an actor in "Black History in Contrast" from 2014 to 2020 and participated in the independent film "Drag Princess" at Sarah Lawrence College between 2007 and 2010.
In preparation for his future, Mr. Cano earned a Bachelor of Science in music industry and technology from Mercy University in Dobbs Ferry, New York, in 2001. He further enhanced his skill set by completing a certificate program in field production and television studio production at Lehman College in the Bronx in 2009. These educational achievements have contributed to Mr. Cano's multifaceted approach to leadership and communication within both security operations and media roles.
Mr. Cano is a professional member of the National Association of Health Services Executives. Civically engaged, he serves as a deacon at New Light Baptist Church in Harlem and volunteers with City Relief, an organization dedicated to supporting unhoused individuals throughout New York City.
Recognized for his expertise in mentorship, Mr. Cano is able to identify value in individuals, nurture their potential, and guide them through personal and professional development, as well as faith-based leadership. He attributes his success to his faith, which has guided him throughout the years. This spiritual foundation informs Mr. Cano's perspective on leadership, service and purpose, shaping his commitment to follow his assignment wherever he is led.
Mr. Cano's professional excellence has been recognized with several honors. In 2017, he was named Security Supervisor of the Year. He was later honored as a Beyond the Badge Honoree by Mount Sinai Hospital in 2024, published on the facility's website for the display of humanity and service, and featured in Mount Sinai's July Monthly Patient Experience Newsletter. That same year, Mr. Cano received the Men of Distinction Award from the New York regional chapter of the National Association of Health Services Executives. In 2025, he was honored to receive the Keepers of the City Award from Straus Media.
Mr. Cano works effortlessly to ensure the safety of all patients and employees on a daily basis. Eager for the future of his career, he remains focused on being present in both his professional endeavors and personal life as a husband and father of three, while trusting that faith will continue to lead him down the right path. Mr. Cano advises those in the industry that it is essential that when work becomes all-consuming, not to lose focus on the importance of empathy because, if we treated everyone the way we treat ourselves, the world would be a heavenly place.
